Some major point creep in many units. My buddies antelope unit jumped two points in the special. It wasn't a glory tag average unit with average bucks. WOW

The draw odds are almost becoming a list of what units not to put in for as the handholding services are swinging units huge numbers year to year. An antelope unit that had 0 applicants in the special last year had 24 this year. Huge swings like that make draw odds virtually worthless.

I thought I'd be cute and try to sneak in a great pronghorn unit, based on my "crystal ball" of what I see as applicant behavior. Before the deadline I went in and modified my app for that unit. The unit took 3 more points than last year, rather than the same (or hopefully less). This was in the Special Draw.

Results show that a unit I like very much, and was the unit in my original application, dropped by 3 points and I would have drawn if not for me trying to be cute. Sometimes I outthink myself and I end up paying the price. 30 years of doing this, I know better. I won't be hunting Wyoming pronghorn this year, and given how I deviated from my normal app strategies, I don't deserve to be. Amateur move on my part.

I was hopeful, but point creep beat me. I probably should have tried the special ($1200 did scare me a bit ), but at least I can make my fall plans now! As long as AZ doesn't surprise me with a long shot, I could probably adjust a little !

Well, I guess I shouldn't be too upset to draw. I had 4 points and it took 7 to draw in preference point round and the odds in the random dropped all the way down to 5% this year even in the special. Pretty lucky to draw it even if it is going to make it a super busy fall.

I used all my draw luck on an antelope doe tag.... beggars can't be choosers. Struck out on everything else....everywhere else

There are some crazy moves in odds, but I don't think it is just apps services. Buzz is correct that the price isn't keeping people away. The back and forth between Reg and Spec the last few years should be an indication to other states that prices can go up. The reality for most people getting in on the points game is less than 5 pts and you get a lottery ticket with constantly changing odds.

Unit 83. (I put the unit number because of the odds numbers, not because it is good/bad whatever. Also to show the difficulty GoHunt has with predictive odds. This isn't the only unit that shows the same thing, to varying degrees.

2024 100% cleared at 2 pts in Spec PP draw, in Reg random 5 tags for 118 apps (4.23%), Spec random 3 tags 2 apps (100%).
2025 100% cleared at 9pts in Spec PP draw, in Reg Random 5 tags for 194 apps (2.58%), Spec random 3 tags 92 apps (3.26%).

It is discouraging seeing the neverending point creep, even in average units. When they go up a point or two every year, it makes it hard to want to buy points.

No disrespect to Randy and others, but it’s a cold day in hell before I pay $1,200.00 for any antelope tag. Fun to hunt, but not that fun.

Oldest boy drew pronghorn buck tag for a new to us unit. I drew a whitey tag. Big swing and a miss for the rest.

Me and my son drew deer tags and doe tags to go with them. Unfortunately, I really thought I had the points to draw an antelope tag, but it continues to evade me.

Am I correct in saying that.. I know dad doesn't have many years left in doing the west stuff ( we're from pa) if we opted to not accept the mule deer tag we did draw.. that we will not get our points back.. and try again next year to draw both mule and antelope ? Could anyone with insight tell me how that works.. we did draw mule deer but not our antelope tags.. thanks

Wasn’t expecting it but my wife drew a 2nd choice whitetail tag. The unit has been 0% odds as 2nd choice. Hopefully we can find a decent buck cone December.
