We aren’t going to tolerate racism or racist themed posts.

I don't think buzz intended his post to be racist, but it was certainly meant to be politically inflammatory, he literally said that as he posted it. For a government worker who's been through decades of EEO training, gotta say he definitely should have known better than to choose a meme that could so easily be misinterpreted and that is so instantly offensive to so many people.

The key point to me is this is a hunting and public land advocacy forum, not sure why it's so hard for so many here to resist posting things unrelated to those topics. There's so many other places on the internet more suited to those posts, and Bigfin has literally begged people to not make his life difficult with political bickering and constant need for moderation.

The meme and humor threads seem to be where people think they get a pass, and honestly though I think some are funny, some I just can't imagine why you'd want to post these things on a hunting forum that is open to children in the first place.

This forum has lost too many good members over a bunch of unrelated bs the last few years, and the quality of content has suffered because of it. Let's give Bigfin the respect he deserves and follow his simple forum rules.

Yeah , I disagree with the ban for the hood .
It comes down to intent and clearly that was not a racist statement.
If you gauge humor using your logic @Lostinthewoods , there not much left to joke about.
Not my site , but if people get offended they don’t have to click on the thread .
Seems simple ?
The core of your post is asking me to find it humorous over a KKK hood.
Just remember that.

Also I disagree, no one should have to worry about clicking on any thread and having to see that. Your example is a perfect one of the bystander effect.
“Just look the other way you so you don’t have to see or acknowledge the bad thing.” I’d rather people on the site go against the grain and call out the stuff that is hurting the forums intent.

I'll come out and say it. The meme thread started out ok but now, especially since it's gone NSFW, it's kind of gotten out of hand. Some of the posts really make me shake my head. I know, if you don't want to see it, don't open the thread. Easier said than done. I could do without it and the drama it created.
I will highlight this in my next post. More to come.

I wasn’t going to dig into this because my goal is to keep the forum on track, not highlight who was banned. That part is irrelevant, but seeing how some of you think certain behaviors are acceptable, let’s put it out there.

A KKK hood with a political motive was posted in the meme thread.

Read my post above. If you think that’s ok because it was used in the context for politics and completely just neglecting the symbol itself, you are the problem.

This isn’t removing some war statue or changing some sports team name due to “woke” culture. It’s a damn klan hood and a few of you are trying to defend it.

Again I urge you to ask your minority friends, coworkers, etc what they think of it. I bet they won’t laugh like you will…..

Laugh? Not even close. I thought it was a misguided commentary on Trump. Hell maybe it said something else, but it looked like a KKK MAGA hat as I scrolled past it. I've lived in the Deep South almost my entire life (46 years), in the early 70s and then 1981 till now. My black friends aren't that fragile.

Having said that, I applaud not having ANY "random" or partisan politics on a hunting forum. Outside of government laws affecting hunting, it doesn't belong here.

I just wanted to follow up.

I received a PM with Buzz’s number and was asked to call him.

After a 23 minute conversation there are a few things I want to cover:

We all know and have known, Buzz is not racist. The reason for his post was to highlight and go head on with another issue with the page (I will circle back to this.) While the picture might not have been the most appropriate means to solve the problem, it still got the attention of a lot of people and after all this is said and done should have some additional improvements on the page.

I’m waiting for Fin to get back and as long as I’m not torched for all of this here is what I will offer him to consider.

1) Political talk on this page (outside of talks regarding public land efforts) needs to go. It’s been proven over and over that it never ends well and as it’s been said so many times already - This is Hunt Talk. Not Political Talk.
Nothing good has ever come from it, I’ve never seen anyone change their minds on their opinions, and it just always ends up negative.
This is what it seemed Buzz was attacking head on in his own way. If the stuff wasn’t around, then he wouldn’t have to use his methods to highlight it.

If that bothers you I can send you some other forums or Facebook pages you can visit with that type of stuff.

2) Discrimination on any level needs to go. The meme thread started well off, but apparently took some dark turns. It’s been highlighted a few times in this thread and by other users in separate convos. This will clearly send some of you into a tizzy because I’ve already been told multiple times that I must have no humor or that my mitigation is ruining the page because of deleted a hate symbol, but again I offer you… it’s Hunt Talk. Not post hate symbols talk, attack sexual orientation or attack sexual preference talk, or belittle women talk.

3) If something is wrong, call it out. Randy spends more time on the road hunting, spends more time with his team working, and adds in family time too. So his ability to check in on the page it limited. I am on here a few times a day to handle reports, eliminate crypto-scammers, check a few thread; and then move on. So we will miss a lot of posts. We cannot fix what you don’t tell us about. If stuff starts going dark or a certain way, then self police and let us know.

The Tommy tough nuts of the page will come cry and say that people need to suck it up or not read the posts. If you want to have a place like that to start your own page. I don’t think Randy started this forum for those reasons and I’ll continue to eliminate the crap any time it comes up.

I’ll leave you with this. We’ve got some people with some strong opinions here, but I don’t often see them being a part of the solution - they just continue to be part of the problem.
I make decisions in an effort to make this place better; not hinder or hurt. If you think that’s the case you don’t pay attention well enough or you’re one of the problems.

Block me, bring the pitch forks out, or come tell me what you don’t like about me at any event you see me at, but I’m not going to stop trying to keep the place on the right track so we can continue to have a place to meet up and TALK ABOUT HUNTING and DEFEND PUBLIC LANDS.
