Thoughts on this bailout and “stimulus”?

The Alaska Senate passed a bill giving Alaskans who qualified for a 2019 Permanent Fund Dividend two payments from the state in 2020, $1,000 before the end of the fiscal year on June 30, and another $1,000 PFD check in October. Bill failed the house and is being negotiated between Senate and House, Governor Dunleavy is eager to sign.
In Alaska each check goes to every family member who is an Alaska resident so likely ~$4000 for a family of four.

I have seen state owned companies over seas and it never works out
I get it. But the reason the government still owns Fannie and Freddie is they create enormous amounts of money and the government needs it.
What I find interesting is the reaction that people (not you in particular, just generally) have to the government ownership but are fine with huge corporations' questionable actions. As I get older (gain experience ;) ) the two (government and corporations) seem one and the same to me. Instances like this just reenforce that belief. The worker pays the bills in this country and gets screwed at every opportunity.I am leaning toward blow.it.the.f***.up.

Returning the Eisenhower's tax structure would be a better fit than owning usury institutions. Fannie & Freddie make a lot of money, but cause a mountain of pain.

There are some areas where it makes sense for the gov't to control an entity, like the postal service as it's a necessity to many. Owning portions of privately run corporations isn't one of them. We've been our greatest when we protected the working class, regulated industry so that we didn't create an oligarchy. Of course we did that largely at the expense of the environment, but now that we're older & wiser, I bet we could figure that out with 21st century technology as well.

Pain to who? Fannie and Freddie are as necessary as the USPS.
I might agree with the general philosophy, but we keep having to bailout industries and companies. Hence my claim we are already socialist but don’t want to admit it.

300 million for migration and refugee assistance.
33 million for NOAA.
500 million for the institute of museum and library services.
100 million for NASA.
100 million for construction and environmental compliance.
278 million for the IRS.
35 million for JFK performing arts center.
90 million for HIV.
36 million for national center for advancing translational sciences.
7 million for a DC charter school.

23 million for Howard university.

All things democrats put in the stimulus bill. 🤔

Hilljack, in all sincerity, no constituent asked nor deserved this shitlick but they do deserve representation and aid. I don't and have never cared for Speaker Pelosi or Sen. Shumer but they do a helluva a job for their constituency. I only wish mine were as tenacious or effective.

This is true.

This shit sandwich delay is completed expected. That some are surprised about this delay is surprising to me.

Both sides have the same franchise model, just different shareholder groups. One franchise is owned by what we call the DNC and the other owned by the RNC, with RNC and DNC being accountable to their funders and only slightly accountable to voters when their salvation is at stake. Neither is accountable to the USA, you, or me. Just the way our world of government has evolved since the Citizen's United case expanded the definition of who is granted 1st Amendment rights under the Constitution (to now include corporations and other entities).

I wish I could paint a more optimistic situation for how our governance has evolved. My opinion, and confirmed by what I see in this stupid fight in Congress, is that anyone expecting the interest of the people and the country to be put ahead of politics and the political donors owning the respective franchises, is likely to be disappointed.

Depending on the topic, I lean more toward what one franchise owner is serving and possibly toward the other franchise owner on a different topic. But I am well served to remember that each franchise owner would sell me and my interests down the river in a heartbeat if it meant they could keep the franchise "open for business" with their shareholder/donors.

When I read comments that one franchise owner is all good or one is all bad, or that one is the problem and the other is the salvation, such makes me shake my head. Maybe I am too jaded from too many trips to DC and engaging with too many elected officials, many of whom are good people. It is a waste of time to try convince me that either franchise is concerned about me and my fellow Americans more than they are concerned about their shareholders/donors.

Some like the Whopper and some like the Big Mac. Both franchises will make you sick if your daily diet is only what they serve. Make your pick, and when you swallow what is being served, use heavy doses of caution.

Me; I'll cook my own burger.

Carry on .....

I might but can you? Or are u just listening to the TV and assuming they have a bunch of stupid shit in the bill?

Nah I don’t have either the time or energy. Unless you copied and pasted from Fox News I’m sure you can find it.

Besides I’m saving up for the onslaught of new guys after the first round of draws.

I think you are referring to the House bill that is being dreamed up by some far left democrats. The real bill is the senate bill which will likely pass tomorrow. Yes it will need to clear the house, and yes there will be plenty of BS spending. But the things you listed are a wishlist, and most of them will not be part of the final package.
