Nah. Well known the 30.06 is the king of elk, a lot of that has to do with the fact its been around forever.

Like was once said. The .30-.30 has killed a trainload of deer; and wounded about as many too.

Same thing has been written about the 303 British. I would assume it can be credited for wounding a bunch of elk as well.

Wish I had 2 choices. I'd say ott six or .270.

My vote would go to the Lee Enfield 303 British. The rifle that tamed the great white north. The commonwealth provided them to their native tribes for subsistence hunting.
If you're asking just about the USA then maybe the 30-06.
