I have been spending some time arguing with a guy over on MM.com.

How many of you think a plan like that listed below would ever get serious consideration and pass in a legislative body?

Here is the thread.

1. Pull all the tags for a single species off the table.
2. Get biologists to develop management plans for each zone.
3. Most importantly develop a number for the total number of males and females of each species to be harvested from each zone.
4. Use an actual economist to set the price for the new tags for the species and adjust prices for individuals in certain zones.
5. Do not gamble on what percentage of hunters eat "tag soup" anymore. Account for %100 fatality with each tag sold.
6. Put all tags up for sale for one month at the set price. At the end of the one month any tags left over go up for auction. Starting bid is $1. Economist will reset price each year depending on the tag sales from the previous year.
7. Hunters who aquire tag have the entire year to kill their animal. No rules set by the state on how they do it as long as they comply with land laws and firearm laws. If you want to use a helicopter, spotlight, laser sights, the state no longer cares. Game wardens only look for animals killed without a tag or not within the tag's zone. It will no longer matter to the state how the deer was killed because the state already accounts for %100 tag mortality in their wildlife plan. Let the hunting clubs like Boone and Crockett start policing themselves instead of counting on the states to do so.
8. The next year repeat with another game species.

Please tell me your opinions. I suspect I know but feel free to share.

Does your wife give hunting permission on her ranch? :D

Is that advocating for a whole year of not hunting a species?

Not but about a thousand 'for Montanan's only' threads the last month bemoaning the king's deer trending.

This once a year "western hunter' is already paying king's deer prices and will continue as long as able...it is what it is.

Noharley,

So no comment on your fellow Texan's plan?

You volunteer to pay the price, kind of different than the king's deer idea.

His plan is stupid....I'm not complaining Nemont, I'm fortunate to be able to do it but you can bet it's the king's deer analogy to lots a fellows who can't.

I believe this guy is looking for a high fence area where he can farm animals to "hunt". We hunt game when it's in its prime condition of the year as part of the fair chase ethic. If you need to wait until game is half-dead on winter range to claim your "trophy" you are not a hunter.

It's called hunting, not harvesting.

The costs of implementing that half baked plan would cause even the most experienced DC'er to spit-take...
