I leave the comfort of Idaho for the rainy Alaskan wilderness in about 2 hours. I am taking my daughter, 2 still cameras and 2 video cameras. We are hoping to clear the pad, pour the foundation piers and cut some logs. I would also like to peel and stack the logs for next spring.
I have a moose tag too, just in case we have some spare time.
I'll try to document it for when I get back, See you in 3 weeks.
(if you are a crook, my house is NOT empty and she CAN shoot!)

Thatis awesome!! can't wait to hear about it an see pics. I just built my first building (duaghter's playhouse) and I would love to do this:)

Good luck and enjoy living out the dream of many here (me included). I'm sure that you will have times that you are hating it and wondering if it's worth it.........but I'm sure in the end, it will be. Take a lot of pics and share when you can.

Now, Nick your not using your head! All you had to do was say "Who wants to go Build a cabin and go Moose hunting in Alaska, all expenses paid". You would have that cabin sitting pretty! Buzz could build ya a Elk antler chandilier, IB could carry the logs on his shoulders out of the woods. Dink could carve little candy faces on the doors. OK, Hunt Talkers who has skills that they could bring to the table? Let's hear em! John

Very envious.

Thought many times, of doing same. Over 20 years never carried through.

I admire that you had the plan, family supported the plan and you are doing it.

I, also, cannot wait for pictures.

Have fun with your daughter.

Thanks guys for the show of support. I will be hosting a get together for all the hunttalkers when the cabin is complete. Yesterday we confirmed the site and decided on a location for the cabin. Today I ran my new Stihl chainsaw for four hours in the rain and got about 90% of the yard cleared. By cleared I mean the trees are down but there remains a ton of work to do. Tomorrows plan is to finish felling trees and begin limping them and cutting them to length I figure probably two or three days of that crap and the site should be ready to actually locate the cabin. Then I need to cut down some trees big enough for the cabin and rough in a road Miles to go...

Sorry to report that pics are not loading like I had hoped. When we get to town again we will try. The last two days were spent keeping my daughter happy. On Tuesday we went to Riley campground and took some showers. Apparently that is still important then we did some looking around in town for a 4 wheeler to rent- no luck. Then I got her some grub that did not require that we boil water. Yesterday we road the bus out to Eilson (sp) and back in Denali national park. We saw lots of cool things and hope to post some pics/video soon. I need to get her outta bed so we can get back to paying the bills...
