Bourbon Connoisseurs

Don’t buy Basil. Buy Old Granddad Bottled in Bond. It’s the same mash bill as BH except aged one more year (a good thing) and bottled at 100 proof.

BH is, no joke, is a younger, watered down OGD, in a pretty bottle for 2-3x the price.

If OGD is too much at first, serve it on ice and let it mellow for 10-15min. The extra water from the melt will get you close to BH with just a bit more complexity.
I prefer OGD from the 1960’s and 70’s. In fact, I love pour a little in a gc glass and just smell it. It is the biggest butterscotch bomb of any bourbon.

Went into local store today...Pappy on the shelf for $99, Stagg right next to it for $89.... (raffle only, in tiny print)

You northwest guys, who don't mind a young Wheated Whiskey might give Dry Fly a look.

Merry Christmas to me! Had to crawl up on the neighbors roof and unplug his furnace exhaust pipe. In the dark. Negative 18 degrees air temp. -45 wind chill. And this is how he showed his appreciation. Hope he doesn’t move out any time soon!

Bringing home a few for a friend to try. He has a fee bucks burning in his pocket so I've been asked to grab a more ryes (Cedar Ridge has a Bottled-in-bond rye I'm particularly interested in trying), a wheated bourbon, and a Japanese whisky.

Don't forget that a nice Mescal is equally drinkable.

Be interested to see what you think of the Cedar Ridge (they're just down the road from me, but i havent tried much of their stuff...should probably swing by and see if they do flights ) vs OF 1920 prohibition style (that is on my list to try sometime)

I don't drink bourbon or any alcohol at all anymore, but I like putting it in a spray bottle and applying it to burgers and steaks while I am grilling. I do that with beer too.

I was at my neighbors poker game a few weeks ago and he broke out a bottle of weller special reserve. Best i have ever had.

This one is a 60/40 Bourbon / Canadian blend to match the ratio of Americans and Canadians that fought in the Devil’s Brigade that trained in Helena in WWII. Merry Christmas to the vets and those servicemen that are overseas tonight.

@HuntTalk Freak or anyone else, post #112 has an unusual glass shown. What is going on here?
That one is a LuckyShot glass that my wife got me. I also have a custom etched BenShot. I like both but ordered a bunch of custom glasses for my wedding from BenShot and have talked to their CS reps a few times, they are a great company. They were even willing to make a glass with a used projectile 4B8B86C3-9402-4D27-80B6-F443E8643A75.jpeg

Due to this thread I can't even start to count the hours I have spent online looking at bourbons now....Today I ran across some Four Roses single barrel and small batch, so I picked up the small batch to start..can't justify spending $300 right away...wanted too because they have a few I wanted :). I figure if I pick up a bottle every 2-4 weeks I will be good in a few months. Now if I can just run across some BT stuff, really want a regular BT and Eagle Rare....Maybe I will get lucky :). Only stopped at 2 stores...Total Wine didn't have crap...I think I will need to stick to small stores. Hoping I will find some Weller and some Buffalo Trace stuff. I did see a few more I wanted to try, but resisted using the credit card :)
Man, Weller and Buffalo Trace have been all over our town, local liquor store had handles of BT for a decent price, their barrel.
Try some Weller Antique 107.
