Bill barring permits in MO Breaks and other districts pops up

So just saw this bill draft, which would bar limited permits in any hunting district with an over-objective elk population. Looks like this is targeting the Missouri River Breaks, and all of eastern Montana.

Since @Eric Albus and @Big Shooter claim to be interested in better management I wonder if MOGA will come out in opposition to this one? Or will they be trying to lease local ranches to take advantage of the last two years of decent bull elk in MT?

Most of the only great elk hunting in Montana under attack. SMFH. The majority of these areas need less bull pressure, not more. A chance for world class elk hunting F upped worse than it already has been. mtmuley

Maybe the strategy is to promote an outlandish bill of this nature to deflect from the others like HB 242, SB 111, SB 143, etc. and make them look like palatable compromises??? That is just about all I can come up with regarding this one.

i read the bill hopefully correctly, it states that if deer,elk, antelope, moose are over objective “ they may not set limits” and mentions a 12hr. Notice of close of season, which I assume means hunters would have to call in with harvest? I could be wrong

Seems to be an opportune time to implement antlerless only harvest in those districts and eliminate any bull harvest.

The population objectives in a lot of those units are WAY under carrying capacity. Population objectives are set by social intolerance of elk that eat grass.
