Why wasn't it retarded buying all that stuff for your 6.5PRC just a few years after the cartridge release date when the 6.5CM had well over a decade of a track record at that point?I’m not a lighthouse customer. I’ll give this a decade before I do anything retarded like spending cash on brass, dies, etc.. I’m weird that way.![]()
It’s pretty nice. I think 20” is max and what mine is, 18” would for sure be handier with suppressor even with this small one it still adds a hair over 4”. Maybe I was ruined hunting with it before a suppressor and got used to the overall 20” length, maybe 16” is even better then.I was tracking a bull through the timber with my 26” browning in 7 mag with an awful loud break last weekend. Thinking to myself, how nice a suppressed 20-24” gun would have been. Just exploring some options lol. The creedmoor is getting the last laugh on this one

I think he might know guys that had the equivalent of a decade worth of loading and shooting the PRC in just a few years. Just a guess. mtmuleyWhy wasn't it retarded buying all that stuff for your 6.5PRC just a few years after the cartridge release date when the 6.5CM had well over a decade of a track record at that point?
It's ok if you hate it, just trying to follow your logic.![]()
Who hates what? I didn't buy any specialty dies required for steel cases, probably never will. Is this thread about the "peak" ammo hype or somebody's favorite rifle caliber? Why wasn't it retarded buying all that stuff for your 6.5PRC just a few years after the cartridge release date when the 6.5CM had well over a decade of a track record at that point?

My comment was in jest to the seeming contrast that you were willing to buy dies and brass for your PRC, which was a few years new at the time, but now with +peak you said needs at least a decade. I missed you were meaning trying Peak for PRC/other calibers and I understand brass is not a novel/new/unproven material like the peak.Who hates what? My coment you quoted above was for taking advantage of "Peak" as a handloader, in likely other chamberings. I'd never buy a new rifle to use with some factory ammo that is allegedly earth shattering. That would be really dumb.
Good to know the CM can kill an elk with a standard velocity load. How many times did you need to reload the magazine? It’s pretty nice. No regrets on my 6.5CM, albeit I would have purchased a 308 just the same as I’m not sure there is much difference between the two for my use case and was dictated by rifle availability and being on sale.

Kinda surprised you aren't shooting a GAP. mtmuley@Big Sky Guy - and don'e feel inadequate with your 6.5 manbun. Size isn't everything. My next rifle investment could be an even smaller 6 manbun or more likely a 6 Gay Tiger. The "G" in Gay and inventor of the 6.5 PRC is somebody I've met, shot fancy rifles with and sat in hunting camp with. When my kids were real little, they were shooting animals with 6/6.5 suppressed criedmoor/GAP rifles and that was literally a decade ago.
The steel in the brass stuff is for somebody way more of an early adopter than me.
Don't let me sway your opinions before spending money - but i'm not sure about your facts and criteria of "performance".I can't shake the fact that a factory loads in 6.5 HP creedmoor outperforms the 6.5 PRC in current factory selection with a shorter barrel. I've seen enough to consider that fact. Why would I want a 6.5 prc as a factory ammo only guy over a Creedmoor other than the manbun stigma? I'm about to drop 2.5K on a slick setup so I'd prefer to not blow my money on a regret.
Hornady used a different powder when developing the 7PRC ELD loads than what they ultimately were able to source when they produced the ammo. Velocity on box and advertised was with unavailable powder and near 150fps faster than what people were getting (barrel length accounted for). Hornady issued a statement basically saying they chose the powder they did as to not sacrifice accuracy but never explained why they didn’t change the velocity (we all know velocity/performance sells). I still don’t know how they didn’t get a lawsuit for false advertising, especially after admitting the velocities were not correct with the powder they were actually loading, or maybe they did and I missed it. This was right at the time of the 6.8 Western too. Just seemed a little slimy to me.The whole "Peak +P" thing is something i'd want to be vetted out before i followed some bandwagon led by ammo marketeers. What's the brass life, issues, costs, hassles, etc. Who knows? I know a lot of gun guys, but not a single one that reloads 7 backcountry or 6.5 manbun +P. I'm completely unfamiliar with a hornady 7PRC ammo debacle. I'm only familiar with some components when they are hard to find.
For a few extra FPS, it's not fuggin much and a lot of "HYPE".
Nice elk is that last week?!?
Rokslide is the way. mtmuleyHornady used a different powder when developing the 7PRC ELD loads than what they ultimately were able to source when they produced the ammo. Thanks! Yea, Sunday. Debated heavily shooting that bull this early but based on last year’s warm weather and the purported super El Niño I’m not super optimistic for more snow in November. Hopefully I can find a nice whitetail as I’ve not shot one in Montana and I don’t want to go after a mule deer that likely doesn’t exist just to see a big bull.
@PoleX the bull dropped with the first shot. I’ve killed enough elk to not trust that so when he raised his head my crosshairs were already on his spine between his shoulders as his back was facing me laying down so I put another one there and that was that. 65 yard shot so hardly a test, but still had 3 in the magazine so never had to do the reload rodeo.
This is only the 4th elk and 2nd bull I’ve killed with a Killmore. However, none have required more than 2 shots and none over 200 yards. I’ve recovered a Barnes TTSX, Hornady ELDX and now a Barnes LRX. Both the Barnes were “odd” to me for the short distances (120 and 65 yards). I’ll try and get pics to illustrate. I would appreciate more velocity for copper monos as the one user above mentioned so that’s the load that has me intrigued. I know Rokslide tells me to go to a TMK grenades but even with the ELDX and Accubonds I’ve recovered more lead than I prefer even after cutting wide.
I’m also not a reloader and neither are the majority of hunters which is perhaps why this is potentially more alluring to us.
The demand for higher pressure ammo is being led by the military. They also need to be able to utilize it in existing platforms... this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the technology. Next will be 308. I'd be bummed if I spent money on a 6.5 PRC with this being available now.@Big Sky Guy - and don'e feel inadequate with your 6.5 manbun. Size isn't everything. That classifieds section has cost me a little bit of money this past year.Rokslide is the way. mtmuley
The amount of mind numbing and mind phucking shit about cartridges that kill the best is giving me great joy. Awesome thread. mtmuleySometimes I miss the classic 308 vs 30-06 discussions.
This is perhaps even better.
