I am looking at buying a mountain rifle for all of my out west hunts. I am probably going to buy a Christensen Arms Mesa. But, I was wanting to know should I buy it in .300 Win Mag or 6.5 Creedmoor? Thank you for all knowledge and wisdom!

Depends what your hunting. Elk not a 6.5. Elk then the 300 is best. But so many better do all round for a mountain gun IMO.
+1 - better options than 300WM, no need for mag when hunting elk. .270Win, .280Rem, 280AI, 7mm08, 30-06, .308Win are all well balanced choices. If you stick with the factory Mesa, then 7mm08, and .308 are solid choices. If you have to go mag then I prefer the 7RM as I like the 7mm bullet options over the .30.

Another vote for the 300 (if these are your only 2 choices) for the versatility, availability and pure energy perspective. I would ask which animals you plan on pursuing with the rifle of choice, your comfortable maximum distance for hunting shots and your acceptance of recoil?

I’ve killed 3 elk with a Creedmoor, and done 1 other recovery. Never again will I recommend it, None were quick deaths and there are better cartridges out there. Lots and lots of better cartridges.
To each his own. I know of people who have used them quite a bit without issue.

buying a mountain rifle
Not sure if this is a serious question as the cartridges are on opposite ends of the spectrum. As they pertain to a "mountain rifle" which by definition is a lighter rifle, the 300 win Mag is a lot for that small package. I'm sure someone out there has a lightweight tack driver in a big magnum but I haven't seen one. IMO the 300 is best suited for a heavier rifle. The 6.5 CM is a great choice for a light rifle, but not my pick for elk. There are many other choices to consider if your mind is made up on the mountain rifle. My top picks would be 6.5 PRC, 7mm-08, or .280 rem or AI.

Totally different rounds. I actually have and love both. Are you recoil sensitive? Hunting ranges?

You really can hunt dang near anything with a 300WM. I absolutely adore my 6.5 though. I have a semi-custom Tikka Wideland Veil. It is the sweetest shooting rifle I’ve ever owned. Literally shoots 1/4 I ch groups with anything and can spot shots easily.

This one does. I don’t know the exact weight, but it weighs nothing and shot a quarter inch group with ELD-X’s for its first group. It does have a muzzle brake, and I’m a big guy… it does make a difference. Physics.

I don't doubt it, looks like a sweet custom.
