Alberta separation is promoted and funded by Washington (they’ve been bragging about it) and Quebec hasn’t had anything in 30+ years. It was coming one way or the other eventually with the Iranian regime being a constant supporter of terrorist organizations causing 50 years worth of terror in the region, add to that eventually they were going to get a nuke which would make the shit show even worse. Hopefully the Iranian people can work it out and set up a less crazy/terroristic government that at the very least doesn’t continue to be the driving force in destabilizing the region.
For what it’s worth, I talked to my Iranian neighbor today and he is very excited and believes this will be a great thing for Iran and the Middle East.
Time will tell what success this action has, but I’m inclined to believe that continued inaction would eventually lead to a worse outcome.

How is any of this relevant?

I think one of the more influential abiotic factors affecting wildlife, habitats, conservation, public lands, hunting, etc. is politics. Whether we like it or not.
The economy, tariffs, inflation influence the means for us to get out and hunt/enjoy our public lands, support local economies when traveling to hunt, buying gear, buying licenses that support state agencies, etc. Commodities and where the market is headed can influence how much marginal farmground is plowed vs. put into CRP, how tolerant a landowner is of the elk in his hay meadow, whether someone finally leases out the place, etc. High interest rates and a struggling middle class don’t have much to do with public lands until they’re used as an excuse to sell them for the sake of ‘affordable housing’ or ‘fixing our debt.’
Whether or not a D or R sits in the Whitehouse and the things they say can influence whether a whole lot of people run out and stock up on guns and ammo (P-R etc.).
Public land agency missions/management directions change depending on which person/party is in power and who they owe favors to when it comes to resource extraction and multiple use.
Larger global events like war impact wildlife and conservation. When a country is at war and people are trying to survive, wildlife/habitats aren’t a priority; energy independence for one is more important. No, we don’t have to worry about this in the US yet, but I imagine if bombs were going off and people were displaced from their homes and needing to survive, there won’t be much thought towards science-based management, harvest quotas, winter range closures to limit disturbance, etc.
That last bit still (hopefully) feels very far away, but wildlife and habitats in other parts of the globe are certainly affected. If stuff we do as a county further degrades some of that, it sucks.
At some point, we all face the music of how we vote, engage as citizens, and behave as people. I don’t think talking about politics on a hunting forum is necessarily a bad thing (provided it doesn’t get too ugly), and can actually be valuable if you are able to make connections between your congressman voting on X and the potential for it to affect your favorite duck pond or fishing stream, even if there’s some degrees of separation from it. IMO, I think avoiding talking about this stuff is detrimental and provides an excuse for some to keep their heads in the sand or depend on someone else to act. If these things were only discussed on political, economics, war in Iran forums, you’re pretty much just preaching to the choir. At least at the end of the day, we can choose to disagree with someone on one thing, but maintain that our shared passion for hunting means we’re not as divided as we think we are.

Good question.
Here is my stance, but it’s not really with much.
It’s a significant world event.
It’s perfectly suited for the fireside topic section.
There’s going to be stuff that happens in this world (outside of hunting and fishing) where you should be able to talk about it with each other.
A few that I can think of recently was when CK got shot, files were released, etc
If people can keep a civil conversation (maybe a better word than relevant) then it’s great. We’ve got a lot of smart people here with good input.

When I posted about something I thought was an important world event I really didn't think it would turn into a pissing contest
I thought it just might be an important enough event to mention. It's not about hunting or fishing, but then again neither are the RIP announcements of "celebrities" deaths.

A few thoughts on these kind of threads.
1. When big events happen, people are going to interject their thoughts about the issue on other threads. History of owning this forum for 17 years has proven that. So, in most instances, not all, when the events are very impactful, it is almost better to have a thread where people can express their thoughts. So long as they do it respectfully, the thread stays open. Eventually, some cannot act civilly and the thread gets closed down.
2. If past history is an indicator, the oil markets will freak out when a war breaks out in the Mideast. When it does, the scramble for more energy in the US hits a fever pitch and the public lands are the lowest cost place to obtain that energy, in most instances. Whether it be solar, wind, or fossil, the energy crisis usually get paid for by a lot of wildlife habitat. It's always unpopular to speak up for wildlife when the "energy independence" choir is singing. Given we are now one of the largest exporters of energy, hopefully the unpopularity of such will be less than in the past.
3. These threads are also good for sorting out a few of the folks who just can't have a decent conversation. Given my fatigue right now, and my continued crazy travel schedule through the end of April, @Lostinthewoods has full reign to use his discretion in keeping things on the rails here.
Keep it civil and keep it on the topic. Hopefully the thread can stay open for as long as members have interest in adult discussion.

This type of action should have happened after the hostage crisis. I believe that Iran made the choice for this to happen. When people tell you that they’re thinking (death to America and death to Israel), believe them. They’ve shed enough American blood to completely deserve what they’re getting. Appeasement never works with fanatics. My prayer is that the Iranian people can step up and take advantage of this opportunity. Time will tell. God bless our troops!
