Thoughts on the best 1911 / 2011 in 10mm

I love how these threads turn into “I can’t answer your question so I will make a pitch for you to change your mind. My favorite that you didn’t ask about is….”

I have big hands and have always gone for double stack Para Ordnance. 45 ACP

When I was looking at a 10mm I went with the Rock Island Ultra. It has been solid for me and delivers 16+1 in a 1911 platform. You can spend more and get their tactical platform. I’m actually not sure if they sell my model any more.

Mine does not have a rail but is ambi with adjustable rear sight and fiber front.

These got a lot of hate when they first came out but opinions are coming around.

Mine has been flawless but with not tolerate limp wrists.

Hey brother thanks for your reply. I actually own a S.W .40 striker fire and love it! I think im just stuck on the 1911/2011 thing because I have never owned one and im itching to get one.

If you really want a 2011 (which I highly agree with, best guns on the planet imo) I'd get a SF 10mm for this application and get a 9mm 2011 for range/comp. There are just soooo many amazing options for 2011s in 9mm that will give you an amazing experience and be a lot more fun to shoot IMO.

Not saying a 10mm 1911 or DS 1911 wont be fun, that platform just absolutely shines in 9mm, plus I'd be a lot more confident carrying a SF platform in rough country to be honest. A lot more things to go wrong with 1911s (even though I love them).

I have had many 10mm. Unless you can get a colt delta IMO the S&W 1006, 1066 are as good as it gets. DO NOT get 1076 with decocker. I have thousands of rounds through my 1066. DA/SA.

Hey guys basically just looking for opinions and insights regarding 10mm 1911's or 2011's.

I have been looking all over the internet and there are just so many options I was hoping some of yall have some experience with them.

My budget is max 2000$ this will be a gun that goes with me into dangerous game country.

(Sorry not a glock guy so don't bother. Yes im sure they are fantastic I just dont care alright sue me lol)

I'd opt for a 1911 single stack or a revolver. You want a service weapon, not a competition gun. The 2011's are lovely and slick as snot but unless it's proven with the load you want to use I wouldn't trust a comp gun for actual work. Magazine capacity is great for weight trainin but in terms of actual usage - you're just packing weight. Put that weight in your gun to keep it on target and consistent for training.

If I'm packing heat in grizzly county, I want something I can hit with the first 2 shots. The rest are likely going wild or not leaving the gun. You have a very limited amount of time to make your freaked out body respond to your freaked out head. Keep it simple: No holo sights, flashlights, etc. Make the gun as slick and easy to draw as possible and keep it close at all times.

Look at the 610 revolver by S&W as well. Autos are great, but revolvers don't have stovepipes or fail to ejects. Get a bad round you just pull the trigger again.

Thank you for your reply! What brand 1911 would you recommend at my price point? (2000$ or less full set up)
