Yup I don't have any of them. My grandpa has two matched 1911 nighthawks. I'm not in that tax bracket. Should have bought his Belgium stainless hi power when he offered it. That'll probably go to a cousin who will do god knows what now with it.

Seems appropriate to be discussing the most American firearm ever in the aftermath of the 250th. I’ve had Colt envy for a while and have kind of been looking around at a government model in 9mm to shoot for cheap and be another good carry option. I went to a local shop and looked at a Colt in 9mm, as well as a few other Colts in 9 and .45. I have to say I was really unimpressed with the fit and finish compared to my $800 Springfield. Loose and sloppy slide to frame fit, barrel bushing fit, and mushy thumb safeties.

All that said, if I were looking for a new 10mm I’d look hard at the Springfield Ronin 10mm, and then look to Dan Wesson or Les Baer if you can spend more. One of my old coworkers carried a Les Baer .45 and it’s still my favorite handgun I’ve ever shot by a long way. I have also heard nothing but good things about Tisas, and I’d still really like to check one of those out in person.

Don't buy a new Colt. Buy an older Colt with little use. Same for Smith & Wesson revolvers, Winchester model 70's. model 94's, Marlin 39's and 336's even Sako rifles. When the Sako model 75 stopped being made 20 years ago, 2006, that was the end for me.

I only have two semi-autos, A series 70 Colt All Steel Combat Commander in .45 ACP and a Colt AR 15 "Z" in 223. Colt only made 250 of them.

These two are like walking through time when quality counted.

I wanted a Colt Percussion 6 gun. Lots a cheap and decent ones on the internet.

I waited, got an 1861 Navy Colt, 2nd generation made here not Italy. A total Colt class act.

My Colt Commander has never failed, not once. Had it maybe 30 years. Great trigger, I can shoot the 10 ring out all day at 25 yards.

I agree. Ed Browns have always had a classy look to me. Nothing outrageous or unnecessary. Everything feels tight and precise. It’s a hoot to shoot. More accurate than I am

1911’s ? I have my Uncles .45 with the original leather shoulder holster he carried as a Captain on Patton’s left flank charging across France. Tucked in my nightstand now.

If you go shoot in a few uspsa handgun matches you will quickly notice that the guys shooting 1911s are slower and have way more malfunctions than everyone else.

I had a Delta Elite and it was a great gun, really too good. It had the two tone polished blue/matte blue finish, and I just couldn't bring myself to beat it up in the field. I ended up migrating to a G20 with a KKM barrel. If I was doing it again with your criteria and budget, I'd probably track down a P220 Legion SAO in 10mm. Great workhorse and I wouldn't feel bad about using it as intended. I'd also like to try the M&P in 10mm since that platform has really worked for me in 9mm.

I had a Delta Elite which I shot so much for years on end. I did this with downloaded hard cast lead bullets rarely using full force loads. Those early Delta Elites were prone to damage if full power loads were used too frequently. The fix was easy and cheap.
Ultimately, I came to see that I always shot a Double Action S &W revolver better than any semi-auto, so I sold the Delta, sold my Browning DA Sig 45 acp, and sold my Colt .22 rimfire Ace that was on a 1911 frame.

I wanted to see what my top end of excellence was shooting a handgun and to do that i wanted to shoot just one handgun. That "one" was a model 13 S and W 38/357. I literally shot it out, but I reached my goal.

I have two more model 13's. One with a 4 inch bull barrel and another with a 3 inch bull barrel for concealed carry, this is the old FBI model. I shoot double action only.

I did keep one semi-auto pistol. A series 70 Colt all steel Combat Commander. I never shoot it but really enjoy owning such a well-made classic handgun.

Alas, the Model 13 went out of production in 1998 whilst the M19 and M66 are still listed in the online catalog. Luckily though, there are still plenty of ‘13s available on the used gun market.

I have an "N" frame set on my model 629 44 mag.

THe 4" model 19 has the same size and weight as the 13 4". I use tyler T grip fillers on mine. THey do not increase the overall size/profile

THe FBI 3" model 13 round butt makes a slightly heavy but serious controlled carry revolver. The boost in velocity from 3" over 2 1/2" is huge. I also have a black leather original FBI issue S and W holster for it.

Actually mine is stainless steel, really a model 64.

I have not done so in 10 years but before that every two years i would do a barricades/revolver shooting course with a former lawman as an instructor.

Not a distant, but still 3rd, G20.

I built my own 10mm on a long slide frame. Shoots better than my other pistols and I have 100% confidence that it will function when needed. Carry it in a Thompson Leatherworks chest rig beside my bino harness.
