While on the subject of swarovski glass....

I've been contemplating buying new binoculars...even though I consistantly throw a paddling on my hunting buddies who own expensive glass with my leupold 9x35's...(or as Greenhorn refers to them as "tasco's").

I've looked through both and I'm close to making a decision, based simply on clarity, crispness, and over-all handling.

Like to hear others opinions between the two...

I was in the same boat a couple years ago. I ended up going with the 10x42SLC's. I couldn't see any diffrence between them and the EL's as far as clarity goes... but if I had to do it again, I would get the EL's, they're lighter and feel better in you hand.

I have a pair of 8x32 'tascos' that I still take unless I know I'm going to be glassing a lot at extended range. They're so much lighter and easier to use at close range.

When possible I use a tripod to glass for extened glassing, its a major improvment over trying to hold them steady on your knee's or what ever.

I'm not convinced that the 10x are the way to go however. I've always used 8x and find at close range or trying to glass with one hand is nearly impossible to get a good sight picture. I think an 8.5 power EL would be ideal especailly if you pack a spotting scope. I think if I was going to spend a lot of time glassing at long range, 1000+ yards, I'd step up to the 15s.

I really don't think you'd be dissapointed with either one as far as clarity, but the EL's are definatly be handleing.

No offense, but you are usually pretty opinionated on such things, so if you looked at both pairs already with YOUR own eyes does it really matter what others think? Your the one that will be lookin through em from the time you take em home.;)

...same here.

The only thing I'd add is the Focus locks in a little better on the EL's.

Thanks for the opinions and advice so far.

Oh, except for schmalts. You definately meant to offend me...and I wouldnt expect anything less from a smartass such as yourself;):D;).

I have the 10x42 slc's. I couldn't justify the $500 extra for the el's at the time. I'm not sure I could justify it now. I've never looked into buying another pair ever since. I absolutely love these glasses.

I have looked through some buddies Leica Geovids and didn't like the size of them compared to mine.

I bought the EL's two years ago, love them, but I would think the difference in the glass would be minimal at best. I do like the ergonomics of the ELs - they just feel natural in your hands. Would I buy the ELs again? Probably - I'm a slow learner.

Not being a smartass, it is the same I would tell someone looking for a new bow. The best way is to draw back and shoot as many different models and see what one feels right. Same with glass, some may not see good enough a difference to justify the extra cash. I can see pretty good and still am not super impressed with my Lieca Geovids. Hands down a high end pair of swaros are much better with my eyes, but I like the range finder at my fingertips so I settled with the geovids. Now if swaro came out with a geovid... I may get divorced

For some reason the ELs do handle better. They are only 3oz lighter so I have never been able to figure out why. Not worth the extra $ to me. I wouldn't trade my 10x42 SLCs for a double jointed hooker.

If I were you I would check out these:

To late !!!!!!!!!

if they were 4x I might consider, but 3x aren't big enough.

Buzz, You're the type of guy that can pick up tasco's and see better then most of us. Buy the cheaper pair, you'll love them !!

If I had the cash... I'd keep my eyes open for a 'used' set at a pawnshop or on line. You can usually find like new EL's for the same price as new in the box SLC's.

C'mon Greenhorn, don't make that head any bigger. Perfect opportunity to bust him down to size and you blew it.
