Enjoyed some quality time with my kids and friends.

The dawn dawned bright and warm

About the only thing in abundance was other guys driving all the roads. Saw lots of people and lots of vehicles but hey we were hunting and knew there had to be critters.

My buddy and his son both had either sex rifle elk permits for 630/'631 so the priority was elk.

I knew of a place that would over look some travel corridors and also was near the boundary where some elk could be pushed to us.

Got there and watch two bulls bed down in the timber draws down there.

My hunting partner was excited to look over some country and help formulate a plan. Hard for me to believe how much he has grown up since his first hunting season.

We bailed off the high ground and head down to the timber to try to get on these bulls. I hate giving up elevation.

On the hike down I ran across a fossil with are every where out here but I think the BLM would not be happy for us to pick them up.

Made it into the timber finding all kinds of sign even some deer rubs.

We ended up not firing a shot and no animals were harmed but we had a great couple of days chasing deer and elk and will be able to do it again .

Nothing like dropping down from high ground. Sounds to be an enjoyable time whether anything down or not. Grats on good times!
Thanksfor for the story and pics, Nemont.

Gads, that is some gorgeous country--some of my favorite I ever have hunted! Glad you are able to enjoy it with your boys!

That looks like some super cool country to hunt. I may have to start thinking about burning those deer combo points I have in MT!

Good looking family. Congrats.

PS- IIRC, didn't your wife used to have extremely long hair?

Yes, she cut it this year for the first time since she was 5 years old. We celebrated our 25th anniversary and she said it was time for a make over. Who knows how women think.

Here the look I normally get.

Nemont- the "before" pics is the one I was thinking of. Both look great. There are two things I will let you educate me on: 1. politics and 2. what women think. If you can school on those two things I'll have life licked! :D

Outstanding Nemont. Nicely done.

I get that look a lot too. It's wonder we can survive given how stupid we are. :D

"I hate giving up elevation."
I sympathize with you on that, my sons throw away elevation while I cherish it like gold - it sucks getting old. Congrats on the quality time with your son, you'll never look back and think you spent too much time together!

Good times NE...

That fossil is a baculite... and its an invertebrate... so they are legal to pick up. Sometimes they have mother of pearl on them and can be really cool. Take them home for a momento!
