Hey all, I am finally getting around to posting my bull on here, I killed in on September 17th.

First a little background, DreaminofMT6x6's is my brother in law and I helped him pack his really nice 6 point out the week before,(see 3 Hour Season thread) so him, my dad, and I all headed to our cabin for a 5 day hunt to try and get me a bull. The first three days were pretty slow, saw a black bear, a couple grouse and a dead 6 point that someone killed right behind us, that was enough to make a guy sick.

Saturday morning we decide to go into one of our most productive spots. We started walking about a half an hour before legal light and we didn't here anything, not a single bugle. Its probably about 08:30 am by now so we head for some thick timber where I know they like to bed. Out of the blue we hear a bugle and it sounds kinda funky, I thought it was a hunter, I cow called and he bugled right back then we could all tell that it was the real deal.

My brother in law and my dad stayed back and I went forward about 50 yards, I had them cow call a couple more times and he kept responding, he sounded close but not real close, so I held my position and waited a couple of minutes. After a few more cow calls he quite responding. I kept looking his direction and finaly spotted his antlers through the timber, I thought he was hung up looking for the cow, but it turns out he was bedded down the whole time. Once I got to where I could see his head and tell he wasn't looking at me I moved to a position where I could get a shot if he stood up. I ranged a tree and it was 44 yards. Thats where I stopped and waited and waited. In the mean time two cows and a calf came buy about 25 yards from me and headed to the creek for a drink, he was letting out these super soft lazy bugles the whole time, thats why before I saw him I thought he was further away than he was. After about a half an hour just watching him the cows and calf started coming back up the hill right at me. The lead cow stopped and stared me down at 15 yards then kept coming, when she got above me at 10 yards she finally had enough and skipped a couple steps. That was enough to get the bull to jump up and stop, I drew back and he was quartered away pretty hard and there was a tree just in front of his front leg. I let one fly and at 40 yards you have time to watch the arrow sail and it dissapeared just about center of his body cavity. I was a little concerned that it was too far back but we heard a loud crash about 1 minute after I shot and then some loud gasping so we were pretty sure we got him.

We recovered the arrow and it was awesomely bloody, followed the blood trail for about 30 yards before we found him.

We boned him out and packed him the two miles back to the truck, My first archery kill and my first branch antlered bull. I have done a lot of hunting by myself and I was super excited to have my dad and brother in law with me when it finally happened, an awesome hunt.
