I just received word from down home that I lost two hunting buddies from my past; one with whom I coon hunted and chased girls in my youth, a dedicated coon dog breeder and trainer, and one of my quail hunting buddies, also a dog breeder and trainer of renown in the Eastern part of the state. I guess it's fitting that they fade away just as both hunting persuasions are fading away, victims of the changing of agriculture methods and the dissolution of the small farmer, large family lifestyle of my youth. Many memories to cherish and a loss to the traditions of our sport.
RIP Tommy and Fletcher

Sorry for your loss Tarheel, may the good memories soften the pain.

No getting around it, Tarhell, that just plain stinks. Hopefully those memories and a couple outings in their honor can carry you past the loss.

Sorry to hear about losing friends.

I'm amazed at the change in hunting and I'm a relative youngster. In my early teens lots of guys in So. IN had beagles and a few still had bird dogs. Today, it's nearly a novelty to see someone with them. Here change in farming practices is a big part as well, but the bigger part IMO is that there are more and more serious deer hunters.

Sorry to hear that, Tarheel. I know the memories of past cannot be replaced, but hopefully some new hunting pals will come into your life and new memories can be made.

Sorry for your loss, hold close those cherished memories.

I actually think about this a lot with a group I hunt pheasant with annually. My dad who just turned 81 and half a dozen other men of the same vintage that mean an awful lot to me. I know this tradition with these men is reaching an end so I really cherish every year we are able to get together.

One of these men is close to 90 if not already and is now blind but comes every year dressed in his hunting clothes he sits in the truck with a set of radio head phones on keeping us all up to date on any football scores.

So, I know it is very sad and I really don't look forward to the day it will end for me as well.

Sorry to hear of your loss, Tarheel. Those special memories never fade.
On an occasion or two, those memories have been an angel watching over me. Valuable memories. Again, sad to hear of your loss Tarheel.

sorry for the loss of your friends. It's tough to lose one friend at a time but two is really hard to imagine. We'll keep you and their families In our prayers.

Sad to hear of the passing of your friends. Glad that you were able to have enjoyed their company over the years.
