Mrs. Fin sent me to my room after my half time rant during the Vikings game. That is not unusual.

Figured I would catch up on some outdoor TV. Watching the SCI show, Expedition Safari. Quest Haven Ranch must do some great management. So far, they are only part way through the show and they have killed two Booners, already.

I need to takes notes about how you produce quality outdoor TV, such as this. The network guidelines for that network says you cannot show the fence in shooting enclosures. Good editing saved the day for them.

Oh my, they just shot a 300" buck at 70 yards with a 300WSM. Not to be outdone, the host is now climing in the blind. Wants nothing but a good typical, hard to find on this ranch due to all the non-typiclals.

Amazingly, he shoots a 200"+ typical within ten yards of where the 300" buck was killed. What a great stand location.

And now the host thanks the ranch owner for all he does for conservation.

Stay tuned. A guest hunter is on deck and will shoot the best deer yet.

I can hardly wait.

Next thing you know, they will say that it is a free range hunt...

I'd love to take some of these pansies on a hike and then laugh when their lungs are coming out their noses about 20 minutes into the walk. This stuff makes me sick. If you're going to show this crap then just be honest with the viewer and tell them what's really going on. It insults our intelligence other wise. Excuse me while I clean up some of the vomit.

Amazing finish, the past president of SCI takes a deer pushing 400". All from the same blind. Good thing they have such great gear, or I doubt they could have success under such conditions.

I need to become a member of SCI, immediately. Without them, this type of "hunting" might be under attack. "Hunting" is the term they used. Now that is funny ........ or maybe not funny.

Let's go with NOT funny.

Buck Mcneely is on right now. You better bring some crackers though. It's cheesy. Just watched a young guy obviously reading from a script as he rattled off some pre written sentences. How on earth these shows get sponsors is beyond me.

Other than OYOA, I mute all of the outdoor shows I watch (which is very few) to keep my Wife from teasing me. She tells me that bridezillas is more realistic. :) She was a "Non-hunter" when I met her, now she hunts, but can't stand what most media is doing to hunting.

Feel free to Scream Randy, we do.

If someone wants to kill a fenced-and-fed deer from the comfort of a tree house in their yard-- I say go ahead, as long as you call it what it is. That is a deer shoot. That is not a deer hunt. TV programs that portray a high-fence harvest as a hunt are doing far more damage to the general public's opinion of public land hunting than they realize. Or maybe they just don't care.

BF,

Ya I caught the previews for the show you are talking about while taking a break from studying. I am being kind when I say it's comical at best and will refrain from telling you what I really think.

It's sad many people think that is really hunting. They need to spend a couple of days with you in wall tent during a blizzard in WY. If you are feeling particularly cruel, you could sentence them to following Greenhorn through the mountains for a weekend. Either way they would get a clear picture of what real hunting is, not the garbage on that show. It's for fatties and those with no skills. I guess I ended up telling you how I really felt after all! :D

I feel better now.

"Laugh or scream, not sure"
Personally I prefer the slow side to side head shake with an unpleased look on my face in this kind of situation.

After 10 days of Upper Michigan Deer hunting with nothing more than some leaky boots to show for it, I wonder if I could get a seat in that magic blind?

Probably if I have to ask how much it costs, I can't afford it!

I to hate the Game farm stuff it's almost as bad as WWE Actually, let me rephrase that. WWE is better especially when the girls get at it roflmao.

I will do without hunting if the day comes I need to go on a SHOOT like that. If I am unable to hunt the right way I don't and won't do it.

Maybe they need sponsors like a fence company, vet meds, hoof rot, etc. Very few shows have what we actually have to do.

Thanks again BF for sticking to the roots and all the other stuff your involved with behind the scenes.

Randy you should love those type of shows. I am sure you have figured out because of those shows OYOA is such a huge draw for viewers. Hey, I remember renting a VHS tape a couple decades ago where a guy arrowed a 200+ mule deer, a huge black bear, and a giant elk. To my surprice all these kills took place in the same type of trees and ground cover. Hmmm..... couldn't have been in the same little fenced in area could it?

I agree those shows make hunters look bad. They portray themselves as hunters and what they are doing as hunting, and non-hunters can not see the sport or effort that gets put into it that most of us put forth every day we enter the woods. It sickens me every time I see one of those guys brag about that they have killed "X" number of elk or "X" number of B&C class deer, only to see the rest of the episode takes place behind a high fence. Thank you Randy for all you put into your show and showing the true effort it takes to be what I consider a hunter.

I'm sure that Fin can attest to ever increasing 'production value' pressure that big bucks (no pun) sponsors can exert. My money's on Randy to keep a set jaw when asked to bend his ideals for adverti$ement return on investment.

....02 cents worth.
