Taking my 15 y/o daughter to Hunter Education class this weekend

Thats all, just excited and wanted to share! :D ;)

Very Good! I have to take my 9 year old this year as well. She hunted on an apprentice license this year, but needs hunter ed to get her own next season. I also need to take it to get a Colorado license when I finally get to go on an elk hunt.

good for you JL, should be fun for both of you. I'm having a class at Big R on the 9th, it feels good to be able to give back and get the kids into hunting and everthing that goes along with it. I always seem to learn a little something at every class too:)

In SC, it can be taken on line, and then certified by a licensed instructor without having to spend time in a classroom. I took it this past fall,( in hopes of winning a trip to Colorado) since so many states require it regardless of age, but honestly do not see any benefit to the requirement. Here, everyone born after June 30, 1979 must take the course, but as I see it, it is a revenue generating source for our DNR. I also believe other states use it as a means to eliminate many out of state hunters from states where they are old enough to not be required to take it.

Its free here in Indiana, so, its not generating any funds here. All instructors are volunteers and game wardens giving there time. . . we also offer it online too.

My 12 year old took hers last year...we shall see how this goes!! =D

Congrats to your daughter. Any plans to get out for the tail end of the seasons?

Now we get to go rifle shopping ;)

You probably already have the gun you're going to buy in mind, but if it's still undecided you may want to look at Savage's Lady Hunter. I looked at one and thought it was a good looking rifle, heck if I was more secure in my masculinity I'd have been able to get over the "Lady Hunter" name and bought it for myself. I think it has a little shorter length-of-pull and was a nice light weight gun. Good luck in the draws.

Registered my 16 year old daughter for her classes today. She was the one that decided when she wanted to start hunting. I've been fine tuning rifles for a couple weeks for pracice. Gonna put her in for some doe tags and cow tags, probably antelope to start. If she likes it and wants to continue with hunting, then we'll let her apply for the good stuff. I'm pretty exited. mtmuley

Thanks for the advise. I had seen the Weatherby V2 Tom Boy which looked good, but I'll have to have her look at a Lady Hunter as well. Was hoping to get a 308, but all I can find are 7mm-08 which is still good enough for what she'd be doing.

She never actually showed any interest in hunting more than tagging along with me, until we ran out of elk steak a little while ago. ;)
