After eight years of residency I finally killed my first antelope buck. In spite of drawing several tags over the years, one thing or another kept me from going after them. This year my good friend Jon Evans and I decided to make goats our priority hunt for the year.

Goats were hard to find in the area we chose to hunt. When we came up on these two youngsters we decided that they fit the bill for "good representative of the species" and doubled up with his .25'06.

A big plug here for Schmalts' Predator Optics, spotting scopes. I've been very pleased with the price/ quality ratio of the Theron I got from him several months ago.

Jon's dog Stan, made for good company on this trip.

Congrats Gerald. Fine weather and good friends make for a great hunt. And when it is a pronghorn hunt, it probably can't get much better.

Some pics of Jon's handiwork. Jon is a custom gun and stock maker. Take his name down and remember this prediction. He'll be well known in the future.

I don't know why some people turn up their noses at antelope meat. I strongly suspect it has more to do with the way most people take care of their goats than it does with them being inherently bad tasting. These antelope were more tender and tasted milder than almost any deer or elk I've eaten. They tasted great.

These goats went from being on the hoof to totally boned out and on ice in less than three hours. In fact it was all I could do to get Jon to take time to pose them for pictures.

In less than four hours from final breath, their tenderloins were the entree' du joir for antelope fajitas. What a way to recover from skipping breakfast!

Stan is so full from cleaning up scraps from butchering that he can hardly move.

I didn't get any pictures of the praraie dogs we shot, or the deer we saw, most of the time I was too busy looking and having fun to remember to take pictures.

All to soon it was time to head back home. Here's a few sunset pictures to close with.

Great batch of pics. Congrats on the lopes. That custom stock if fricking sweet!

I was about to comment on the nice looking "OLD" mauser. It looks like the quality of work that was around 25 years ago. Your friend Jon has a promising future if the economy pulls itself back together. From what you show here, he does very nice work.

Very cool Gerald. Looks like good friends, good food, and some great times.
An antelope pilgrimage east is a hunt I will never miss again.

Great job guy's. fantastic hunt. Plus you are right about the Theron spotting scope, They are awesome for sure. I love my 60mm, I took it on my New Mexico and Wyoming trip this year so far. I still have all my tags for Idaho yet. Can't wait to use it some more!
