Not Virginia anymore!
I don't know much about the guy other than he shoots giants animals with a bow. I saw an interview with him where he said that "whenever it's legally possible, [he does] not hunt with a guide" yet doesn't he hunt Turner's place or other private ranches in eastern Montana? It doesn't bother me that he goes on guided hunts. I just found that statement rather funny after looking through Arnaud's pictures. Does he generally do good things for the average hunter or is like most of the other big name hunters on tv?

I'm not following you on this one. If he says he hunts whenever possible without a guide, that would also mean he hunts with one when necessary. What is the big deal, as it would appear he is on the up and up as far as how he does things. I really have no idea what your last sentence is asking as far as what they do for us. I guess they all are trying to entertain us. What else should they be doing?

As far as I know he's a pioneer for DIY adventure bowhunting. Never met the guy, but I've read all 11 of his books.

Oh man you just opened Pandora's box. Do a search on here and you'll find all sorts of good stuff.

Nonresidents don't have to hunt with a guide in Montana. He could draw a tag and hunt on his own. My point is that he's making it sound like he hunts on his own whenever possible, which doesn't appear to be the case. The point of my last sentence was to ask if he is involved in any worthy conservation efforts. I would hope that he is as he's making a living off these animals. I don't know much about him. That's why I was reading up on him. Just curious.

P.S. - If I could afford a guided hunt, I would definitely go on one every now and again and I don't have a problem with people who do.

Hunt on ranches and go on TV and talk about how great you are. Just not what I think of when someone says the word "hunting"

Regardless of where he hunts, there is maybe .5% of the population who could go out and kill like he does. Even on the property he gets to hunt. Fact.

The guy has killed about every kind of animal with a bow to be killed throughout the world and not just on North America ranches. Cripes, that one big brown bear he killed was like only five yards away from him. If I did that kind of stuff I'd be writing about it too! It probably does take somebody a little "weird" to do the stuff he has done, LOL! He doesn't have the personality of a Fred Eichler, but then who does!

...chit, I'm gonna go kill something penned up before I start trying to out do all these OYO pledges. .

I've spoken with him a few times over the years.....very docile, humble, and knowledgeable. He primarily hunts on his own.......both public and private land. I never heard about any of his hunts when we spoke unless I specifically asked about them........he did, however, want to hear about mine. He's alright in my book.

I guess technically it wouldn't be legal to hunt there with out a guide...;)

This the interview you were talking about?

He wanted to hunt MT every year, the only way to do that, was to get an outfitter sponsored tag...meaning he'd have to be guided. I'll be the "guide" doesn't do much... he'd only decrease Chuck's odds of killing the big one.

Regardless...he's a stud bowhunter... period.

For him to "legally" hunt the land he prefers to hunt in Montana. Meaning an area with really good genetics, little pressure, and high percentage chance for a trophy sized animal, he pretty much is going to need an outfitter to access the leased up land he likes to hunt.

I got his autograph as a kid when he was in town...and he's still doing good things for the sport and writing for Bugle 20 yrs later. It's pretty hard to find fault with that.

I'm with Roy. The only way anyone can take away anything from Chuck Adams is to just simply not know much about him. He came from humble beginnings, made bowhunting his lifelong passion, and made a career of it. We should all be so lucky. He is an ethical and upstanding bowhunter who is damn good at what he does. Guide or no guide, public or private!
