I've killed a lot of average to small raccoons in my time, but this isn't one of them. Dang thing looked like a mini-bear. You know it's pretty darn big when the back foot is right at the top of the fence post and the nose is darn near on the ground. I've killed a number of adult coyotes that didn't feel as heavy as this thing. The bugger had been stealing chicken feed and killing chickens on a friend of mine's place. The little 17HMR brought a stop to that. Unfortunately it took 3 shots. The first one just ticked him off. The second one slowed him down, and the third finally took him out. Darn tough critter.

That is a whopper. Especially out west. Your neighbor is probably thankful for your intervention.

Nothing will plump up a raccoon faster than a steady supply of chicken with a side of chicken feed. ;)

Nice coon for sure, but my compliment is reserved for the picture. Very nicely done. No blood, all the technical photo things done well, beautiful background. Obviously you spent some time on the picture.

Spitz that made me smile. Thanks.

MNElkNut, thank you I really do appreciate that. I do try to take photographs as tasteful as possible.

Haven't skinned him yet. It was 90 degree's yesterday, so I just tossed him in my "Dead Stuff" freezer. When it cools off a little I will thaw and skin him out. So the tooth pick is still safe for now.

That is a big one. I been doing the same thing myself. A local rancher said he was having a raccoon problem. I've killed 16 the last couple evenings. He now has a smaller problem. In a few more evenings he should has a few less.

Son, thats a big coon...ive killed a couple big ones and seen some even bigger ones tree'd by my uncle but nothin like that, that thing's a giant good job.

Edit, embellish some.

Talk about how he charged and was mauling your buddy and you took him out with one shot between the eyes.

Mention rabies or distemper.
