I love when people get pissed off because someone continues to play the game they've spent their whole life playing. If someone is willing to pay him to play, why should he quit assuming he still wants to play? Because it ruins your memories of him or his "legacy"? If that's your reasoning, then I suppose you would support Randy giving up hunting because he can't always get around the woods like I'm assuming he used to. Sorry Randy, no more hunting and no more show. Looks like I'm going to have to take over now (that includes any tags you draw this year).
I never said anything about it ruining his legacy or my memories of him. It was frustrating because he was making the team I root for worse by being on the roster, and depressing to see such a god given talent get old and not be able to do the thing he's done so well my entire lifetime.
He probably earned that right by doing what he did for the Mariners, but still a frustrating situation for the fans. It would have been nice to at least have a big send off for him, maybe I'll feel better if he comes back later this year for some sort of ceremony.
The last active hero from my childhood retired yesterday and moved to Florida to play golf, it's a sinking feeling.
When you have that much emotionally invested into a team like that, emotions take over from rationality, like I said below.
