Attack on the Feds independence

Yet - I do feel that someone here illegally should be deported, especially if they have been previously convicted of serious a crime.
There was a process for that, but rules and law have been thrown out the window. And to add nuance, if someone walks up to the office at the border and says "I'm seeking political asylum", they are not here illegally.
Just want to poll real quick because I think a member was possibly seeing something that wasn’t there.

I read this as SAJ-99 asking about the accent and then basically throwing a spear at the “probably cause” for searches and raids these days. Not saying anything towards people with accents.

Please tell me I’m not crazy.
It was sarcasm about the approach ICE is using. Not anti people with accents. Just the opposite actually.

I'll give the tellers the benefit of the doubt.
I can appreciate that.

I just don't feel that it's a rationale viewpoint in today's world of charged media coverage, pointed/hostile rhetoric, and sensationalized social media.

I wouldn't at all blame that same person if they turned into the wrong tv network and that filled them with fear/anxiety.

Not to say anyone's feelings are invalid, just that the truth of what's actually happening in the world may or may not be relevant.

I took it to mean saj is saying accent seems to be a leading probable cause for the ICE members taking custody of individuals.

Correct. That is how I read it too.
I’m just polling so I can put a polite post out to the people reporting things.

I read this as Bonsasbay joining SAJ-99 as calling out the reason people are raided and picked up. Not making fun of people of color.

I’ll have a post to put up after I get my feedback.
I did not take it as anything to be concerned with.

They are both wrong but not racists as far as I can tell.

I'm not going to jump into the convo full bore, but here are some additional thoughts.
-Society plots on a bell curve. Not everyone is capable of having a high paying job, so what do you do with those under that threshold?
-"Absolutes" are absolutely not true.
-The American dream is alive and well for the vast majority of us, and while it might be harder as white guy to buy a home right out of school, it's easier for a lot of other groups to get there than it used to be.
-Almost anyone can, with simple hard work and good choices, achieve damn near everything we dream about. But what do we as a society do with people who can't make good choices, can't save, don't value delayed gratification, can't master "life" math? They're not less human, but are they less deserving, and if so, of what?
-The progressive side of the economic discussion often comes across as not wanting to reward "my" hard work and "my" good choices.
-We used to have shacks and trailer parks as our low income housing. My grandma was born in a dirt-floor, single-room shack at a logging camp. We, as a society, don't accept those anymore. But not everyone can or should have a 3-bed 2-bath rambler in the 'burbs... So what is a realistic answer?

Contrary to what Trump has claimed, many thousands of MN citizens...including many who lean right politically...have been out protesting. I wish more paid attention to what's happening here, but am confident in the voters to turn things around next fall. The growing # of eyes being opened will assure that. Then comes impeachment....hopefully.
I just think of all the 2A discussion and how people argue that the 2A is to prevent a tyrannical government. What if the government was coming to check on the legality of your gun ownership? This is the literal definition of a tyrannical government.

Everyone should speak up because once a line is crossed it will be crossed again, and maybe not to their benefit. People should be asking themselves if they would shoot an officer to protect 2A freedom? I am expecting the news to get worse before it gets better, but I hope not.

Congress has to fix that,
Good luck.

They are both wrong
You have to leave your bubble. That is EXACTLY what is happening.

This point is the political divide. Is the solution to try to make it easier for a white guy (or a non-white guy, hell, even a girl) to buy a home right out of school? Or is the solution to make it harder for the non-white guys so the white guys feelers aren't hurt?

I dream of a world where the plumbing you pee with and the shade of skin you see in the mirror aren't deterministic of what society owes you or doesn't.

My sister lives in the Twin Cities. I was talking with her earlier today.

One thing we agreed on is that all of the video, shot by civilian protesters is powerful. It was not a good look to have an elderly Hmong man walked out of his house in his underwear, and blanket. It did not matter at the time he was a naturalized citizen.

It mattered more, seemingly, that he was not caucasian, and had an accent.

I also saw that some Oglala Sioux tribal members were detained. I thought that was kinda rich
Let Freedom ring...

Thousands? Turn off CNN for a minute please.

Due to work, I was in Minneapolis when that gal who tried to run over the ICE officer was shot. I was only a few blocks away when it happened. I'd bet a lot of money you live within 30 mins of that area based on your political views. "Impeach him, get him, he's the bad guy, it's all Trumps fault". Yeah, I remember when Trump opened up the borders and allowed Millions of illegals to flood in to the country. Call your buddy Biden, his presidency is the reason this mess exists and needs cleaned up.

I along with the rest of the state that isn't circled around the Twin Shitties or Duluth - I'm in support of removing illegal immigrants from the state. Spend some time outside of the cities, see what MN is really made of. Then go back to the shithole area down there and try to convince anyone you know what's best for the state.

Life is gravy when you make good decisions and follow the rules.

Hopefully you're on board with the secret police deciding to go door-to-door after criminal gun owners or any other random pet aggression when the pendulum swings. Don't tread on me means don't tread on me.

This is demonstrably not true. https://www.propublica.org/article/immigration-dhs-american-citizens-arrested-detained-against-will

The secret police? Who does this refer to?

I'd love if they took guns away from criminals. What's bad about that? I can circle a map in MN where they can start and probably stay busy for a few years.

How many of these people showed ID when asked for it?

I'd bet none of them did. I know 6 people who have been checked by ICE. Guess what, they pulled out their drivers license, showed them, and went back to work!

Read the news all you want. I'll share boots on the ground real world experiences!

Unfortunately if the pendulum swings hard enough, you may get to prove that you're in favor of it. Taking guns away from criminals = good. Taking guns away from criminals by breaking down every door in the neighborhood and forcing every gun owner to produce their papers at gunpoint = bad. At least from my perspective. But it seems like you feel differently.
