Ask your onX Hunt questions here!

Two questions for when the elk hunter returns:
  1. The Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forest grazing allotments are not included in the USFS grazing allotment layer. Plans to add them?
  2. Is it possible to create a waypoint by uploading a geotagged photo? If not, it would be a handy tool.

2) (phone app only as far as I can tell)
enable location access to camera (when using app)
take picture
open onx, tools, add photo

I tried that the other day and it just put the photo where I was currently located.

I want for you to be able to send me a geotagged photo and I can upload it to onX and create a waypoint where the photo was taken.

ha, yea I took the pic from my recliner.

edit
My email scrubs the geo reference data, just tried it.

Just tried it with a geo ref photo from AZ that was on my phone, still puts the waypoint at my current location.

The trail camera tool on the web map side should do it, but it won't upload a photo.

Yes...I could log in with my email...but most of the features aren't available. Only thing I can think of is my linked card number might have changed after I thought it did.

Onx sends so darn many upgrade now emails I might well have ignored a message that my membership level wasn't continuing due to not being able to charge the card.
It sounds like you may have used a different email on your phone than you used to log in on your computer. Please send us an email at [email protected] and we'll be able to get everything straightened out for you.

We've reached out to our mapping team and they will look into why those forests aren't showing that data and work to get it corrected.

It is not possible to create a waypoint from a geotagged photo at this time, but that could certainly be a useful feature, so we will pass that along to our engineering team!

I went back and looked, and those forests were showing as recently as 2-3 weeks ago. Perhaps a recent update in which they got missed.

Thanks, but looking back we think the card the account was linked to was replaced...same card, a few new numbers. Don't remember any "we were unable to renew or charge" the card on file messages...but pretty sure that was the cause.

When using Android Auto, why does the map spin around as the vehicle changes directions? What's it trying to do? It makes me dizzy.
Troubleshooting in-dash issues is a bit difficult via forum. If you can email us at [email protected], our customer support team will be able to look into this for you and hopefully get it resolved.

Last time I was using the app, about a week ago, my location was constantly freezing up. With the app open on my phone I would look at the map once then hike a ways and the next time I looked it would almost always still show my location back where I had previously been. The only way I could get it to show my correct location was to shut my phone off and back on.
This was with a saved offline map and phone on airplane mode.

GPS issues are most likely caused by a setting or issue with the internal GPS in your device. If you can shoot us an email at [email protected], we'l be better able to dig in and recommend some steps to get this rectified.

If you tap on a waypoint and tap on go-to waypoint right now, what happens?
so here is a recent screen recording of this issue still happening on my phone. happened while hunting in the last week intermittently.

at start of video i have an active goto as evidenced by white line from current location. then you see I select a diff waypoint and do a goto and the distance briefly blinks then dissapears. i have to repeat the goto and THEN the distance displays and stays displayed. Frustrating to say the least.

Thank you for sending that screen recording, that is very helpful. We're able to replicate this issue on our side and it definitely appears to be a bug on our end. We've passed this along to the engineering teams and they will take a look at it and work to get it corrected.

Good deal. I was having the same issue this past week. I hope it gets sorted soon.

My other issue also, remains, when out hunting and I close onx to save battery and am on airplane mode then open onx it can take a long time to load up and show backup ground maps and then my markers/track and also my location. never used to do that. A long time lag of course eat up my battery. When all I’m trying to do is take a quick look at my map to decide which direction to go ETC.

The ‘fix’ is to turn cellular back on for a few seconds even when there is no cellular signal to pick up and then go back to airplane mode. That is a pain, and eats battery needlessly in backcountry when preserving battery is paramount.

Help with this too please

Below is a screen video of the problem in action. in this case on X actually booted up more quickly than I was experiencing out in the field last week perhaps because I had just opened up on Onx with a full Wi-Fi and everything a few minutes before during the airplane mode then turning my phone off, then turn the phone back on and then booting up on X.
Shortly after the video started, I switched it to off-line maps only which is what I was using in the field

Sorry about the trouble there! Please send us an email to [email protected]. Our customer support agents will be better able to get to the bottom of this issue and get your app back up and running as it should be.

How long does it take to update ownership information after private property charges hands? Thanks. mtmuley

It really depends on the state and/or county in question. Some counties update their parcel data monthly, others only update their data once a year. If you know there is a parcel showing incorrect ownership on the map, you can always use the error reporting feature to submit that error directly to our mapping team.
