Many of you have asked about the onX HUNT banner ads you see on the forum and the slates you see in our videos this year. Back in 2020, I was told I needed to choose between the two companies I was using; one for maps and one for research. I explained that decision here.

Through that time, I've retained a great relationship with all parties. Over thirty years of owning businesses, the one principle that has served me well is to not have hard feelings and not burn any bridges. My ten-year contract with GOHUNT had a cancellation option for them and a cancellation option for me, depending upon certain events. For me, I was able to cancel the contract in the even they sold, which happened last fall (2025).

Over the years, onX has done a lot of work with RMEF. RMEF often asked if I could be the face of their access work that was being supported by onX. It just didn't seem like the right thing to do when I was in a contract with a competitor with onX, so I would do what I could for RMEF without infringing on my contract obligations to GOHUNT.

In January RMEF asked if I was interested in being the face of the access work they are planning with onX. Given my heart is with RMEF and public access, it was an opportunity that I want to be a part of, especially at this point in my life. The details of that campaign are still being worked out, but when I raised my hand to do the RMEF assignment, it meant I had to address the GOHUNT-onX situation, as I did back in 2020.

I did not want me to leave GOHUNT in a lurch during the 2026 application season, so I kept working with them during the time they look to us for their most useful content; Q1 and Q2. I gave them a heads up this spring that I would be exercising the option to cancel the contract, and I would be doing this access campaign with RMEF, which is mostly funded by onX. That officially changed July 1st. GOHUNT was very professional in understanding my interest in doing this multi-year campaign.

I am excited to be working on these access ideas with onX and RMEF. Lots of fun stuff in the next couple years. I have maintained a great professional relationship with onX following the decision in 2020, and I hope to continue a great professional relationship with the people I worked with at GOHUNT.

I've been in this gig for 18 years. I'm interested in projects that are most meaningful to me, which in this case is more public access. onX has the most robust access effort of any company in our industry - they always have, and during my volunteer work at RMEF I've been able to see the benefits created by onX's commitment to access and public lands.

Most of you use onX for your maps. You know the quality of the onX product. You know their support for conservation and public land access. I am thankful that they have viewed me as an asset to public land efforts, whether we had an official relationship or just collaborators on projects we are passionate about. I'm very excited to help onX, and RMEF, with their work on public access. The folks at onX are great people and serious hunters. They understand the importance of public land and increased access for hunting.

As part of the onX agreement, you will see onX product integration back in our content, on this forum, and videos they publish that feature me and the manner in which we use their products; both the onX HUNT and onX FISH products. In the next year you will see more RMEF-onX HUNT-Randy videos on the public land work they have been doing.

Hopefully that makes sense. As always, even when we did not have a formal agreement, at the link below you can use promo code RANDY to save some money for the few of you who are not current subscribers.
