6.5 Creedmoor Peak

The demand for higher pressure ammo is being led by the military. They also need to be able to utilize it in existing platforms... this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the technology. Next will be 308. I'd be bummed if I spent money on a 6.5 PRC with this being available now.

I was looking at getting a 6.5prc when the plus peak info dropped. I'm glad I waited. There is no longer a benefit to the 6.5prc. The plus peak exceeds it in velocity out of a shorter barrel. You can also switch between plus peak for hunting to standard brass for plinking.
This tops the grizzly defense advice

The amount of mind numbing and mind phucking shit about cartridges that kill the best is giving me great joy. Awesome thread. mtmuley
I hesitantly fired this thread back up this week because I had a guy at work ask me what I thought of the .300 win-mag. I told him it’s the most bad ass elk killing machine known to man, followed by “I happen to have a brand new unfired 300 winmag I’ll give you a scheming deal on.” Now we’re here.

Nothing about this silly peak cases has made me second guess my prc. Wouldn’t make me rethink my current 308 rounds if they go that direction either.

I didn't mean to offend you and your prc. My bad. You don't have to buy factory ammo for plus peak. Go read something about it. Check out some reviews. Look at the load data people are figuring out... or just continue to be a jerk off. No one suggested you should sell your prc and get a creed. You're almost in the old guy category although you're shooting a rifle cartridge that's only 8 years old, so you're stuck somewhere in the middle.

Pretty much this thread now:

People are already reloading the plus peak ammo. Its just another set of dies. I imagine the steel case will outlast brass cases in terms of number of reloads on a single case, but time will tell!

I wouldn't rethink it if I had one. Its still really new. If I were buying a rifle today I wouldn't buy a prc though. Just my opinion. Same way I would buy a new model year truck if it was the same price and did everything better than the previous year model.

Don’t flatter yourself. Cartridge regardless, I wouldn’t be interested in fiddlephucking around with that until a lot of others I know do it first.

Hype, and those easily hooked, never not funny.

I'd like to assume federal has done pretty extensive testing on it. There's a lot of influencers who got a bunch of early ones to test (test dummies) to try out. I haven't heard any problems as of yet, not to say there might not be.

Steel is stronger than brass in every way. I'll be an early adopter and share my findings. I'm excited to reload it. Stretch is minimal and doesn't require trimming, primer pockets won't enlarge like brass. I wonder what the # of reloads is before you need to toss it due to neck/shoulder wear.

From a scrutinizing point of view, other than being new, what are you apprehensive about? Just curious what you don't like about it.

I don't think steel is better in every way for reloading. Most, sure. One way brass is better is, by and large, it is not brittle (aka high ductility) under all stresses. Steel can be brittle under certain conditions. Thus, it may be more prone to brittle failures than brass. Time will tell I guess.

I don’t “not like” it.

It’s 100% not yet vetted. I value time/money for what I assume is not much upside at all, at best.

Hype. Especially for buying factory ammo. If you’re a guy that shoots 20-60 shots a year through a rifle, and is happy with confidence in using mass produced ammo with lot to lot variance across what’s included - you’re the target demographic.

But please load up and report back. I’m interested in seeing how it all unfolds.

I wouldn’t count influencers that were given free product or marketing companies as the best sources of info on how good a new product is. Companies produce junk all the time that paid people say is wonderful

End of the day I’ve already got more rifles than I can or want to use, fancy high pressure steel cases won’t change that

If you guys would just switch to Bergers you wouldn't need that silly, extra couple hundred fps. Those things kill no matter what speed they are going.
I can't wait until the PRC Peak+ ammo comes out. I won't have to handload anymore, and I'll be screaming Bergers at 3500 fps+.

I don't intend to shoot factory loads with it. I'll continue to pursue the unattainable perfect accuracy at my reloading bench.

You have a 6.5 prc and are established with it... I wouldn't change if I had one either, I'd keep using the prc.
Since I'm getting a 6.5, it makes more sense (in my mind) to go the creedmoor route with the new ammo technology that is now available. It give me the option to do normal creedmoor rounds for plinking or deer hunting back home where I'll never shoot past 300 yards, but also step up to beyond prc performance by using a different ammo.
