2025 General elk is a wrap

BuzzH, do you think the 140 grain Accubond would’ve done better than the 142 grain ABLR?

Was a pretty quick season this year with only 3 guys in camp. I picked a bad time to catch a hell of a cold, still not over it but seems like I'm on the mend.

Had some great action and I messed up on a real nice 6 point opening day, long story short, either shot over it or hit a limb. My miss was another guy's good deal so it all worked out.

Anyway, next day bumped a bull from his bed and when he made a poor decision to trot in front of me, I took advantage. Good thing too, with this cold and all, I was pretty happy to have it work out right fair.

Bull number 36 and elk number 90.

The next morning found a herd right at day light and ran into another hunter who also knew about the elk. The other hunter was very kind, generous young guy with some great ethics. He asked if we were going to pursue those elk, but with George being 83 there was not much chance he could get there in time. I told the other hunter to go for it as there were 6 or so decent bulls in the bunch. The wind was perfect and the elk were bugling like crazy. The other hunter took off and edged down. George and I waited on top and after about 30 minutes I heard a cow call followed by a shot. The other hunter killed a decent 6 point from the bunch. At the shot I told George we should probably head to an area we've seen the elk cross when they head East after being bumped. Sure enough, we no sooner than get there and the whole bunch of about 40 are slowly crossing in front of us. George was able to put the hurt on a cow, well over 50 elk for him. That guy really amazes me every year with his tenacity and willingness to stick with elk hunting. He's been hunting that country since 1969 or 1970.

Finally my other buddy from IL got a spike. Caution to all, if you use 6.5 140 Accubond Long Range bullets for elk, rethink it. He hit the elk right in the shoulder and the bullet exploded and didn't even get into the body cavity. Without snow, that would have been a lost elk for sure as the bull traveled 1.08 miles in a straight line before he caught up to it and finished it off.

So, we finished up 3/3 and that's that.
FANTASTIC!!!!!! Congrats to all 3 of y'all.

About 8 inches behind the on-side shoulder just under the hide in front of the off-side shoulder.

Looks like typical accubond performance that I’ve seen from 110 accubond to 250 grain accubond. Perfect mushroom against the offside hide

Yep 140 accubond and 7-08...boringly consistent.
I killed my elk this year with my Model Seven SS 7-08 with 140 grain Accubonds. Worked pretty well. I don’t have a bullet for show and tell, but yours looks awesome.
