Where'd the other dollar go?

3 sales guys go to check into a hotel...theres a convention in town and only 1 room left. The desk clerk explains the situation and says he'll give them the 1 room for $30 if they want to share it...they argree and each give the clerk a $10 bill and go to the room. Later the desk clerk realizes he over charged them...calls the bellhop over...hands him 5 $1s, tells him to take it up to the room and explain they were overcharged. The bellhop heads up...and being a smart guy realizes it wont split evenly between 3...so sticks 2 of the $1's in his pocket...knocks on the door, explains the situation and gives each guy $1 back.
OK...now each of the 3 guys has paid $9 each for the room...3 x $9=$27...the bellhop stuck $2 in his pocket...$27+$2=$29...where'd the other dollar go? :confused:
 
They gave the Clerk $10 each. The bellhop took $2 for himself and they each got $1 back (Or the remaining $3). So if they got $1 back from $10 they paid $9. (9x3=27... sure, thats the total they paid) But, Paying $9 is money "out" or a negative. What you need to do is take the $27 which they paid (Negative) And Subtract a postitive ($2 profit) to get the -$25. The -$25 is what went in the till and is what they actually paid, or $8.33 a peice. They paid the Bellboy $0.66 a peice (Unknowingly). so $8.33+$0.66 or $9 a piece which is the $27. They paid the $27 and got $1 each back or the $3. $27 out.... $3 back.... so $27+$3=$30.

How much did they end up paying should be the question and and to WHOM. You need to bring the TILL in the equation. They paid $25 for the room and 2 to the Bellboy and each got back a buck or $3 total. Which accounts for the -$25 that they paid to the hotel till, -$2 to the Bellboy, and the +$3 they got back.

The $2 needs to be subtracted from the $27... not added to it to make it $25 not $29.... The Equation mixes math equations.

The bigger question should be which 2 sales guys slept in the same bed since there was probably only 2 beds !!!! :D :D

Do this... Count on one hand 1,2,3,4,5... So there are 5 fingers on that hand. Now count on the other hand, 6,7,8,9,10... Now count backwards on second hand... 10,9,8,7,6... So there rare 6 fingers on the second hand right ? 5+6 = 11 fingers.... Silly huh ? Don't mix math.........
