156 pounds is about how much RJ weighs soaking wet. Buzz, How can you honestly think you’d whip him if you can’t even lift that by yourself?
Relax, it’s a joke! That’s a nice halibut, and it looks like another great adventure. Was the fishing about average or above average or below average?

I think this is year 19 or 20, the trips vary every year. It was good fishing.

I'll have to be nice to Buzz now I suppose to learn the ways of catching those dusky and black rockfish like that. 3 fishing trips now and haven't got those down yet. The non pelagic ones like yellow eye, quillback and China we seem to be able to get but not those we can actually keep

I was on a charter and we were not having the best luck and they took us out to a spot to catch those black rockfish and he bet us $1,000 we would catch one on the first cast.
We didn’t take him up on the bet and sure enough we both caught one on our first cast.
Then he said to throw it back in with just the hook and a weight. Thought he was crazy and sure enough we caught one on pretty much every cast even with just a bare hook.
Seems like the trick is just knowing where those guys like to hang out. Catching them was the easiest fishing I’ve ever done in my life.

20 years with the same boat and captain? How has the fishing changed? Same spots every year? Same techniques, different techniques?
I listened to the meateater podcast last week about fishing technology and it has me wondering.
