Thoughts on this bailout and “stimulus”?

For the sake of staying on topic I’m not gonna elaborate in that.

I sincerely hope that any bailouts go to the People who need it most and they use it wisely in this time. I sincerely hope that in 3 months I’m not one of the folks needing a check to help me out. I’ve been poor and never wanted to be given anything , just the chance to work hard and get compensated fairly.

That said,

last year I sent out 2 1099’s 76,000 and 101,000, paid one guy 78,000 and a part time college kid 34,000. Receipts spent on lodging,fuel,supplies around 53,000 in local Montana businesses.

Hopefully we can get back to those days when this all over.

I don't think it is off topic. Regardless of what our collective opinion is on this thread, the money is coming. Lots of it. To the workers, to the corporations, to wherever it needs to go. We will see if it results in inflation later on. Economics is called the dismal science for a reason. Everything works great in a model. Not always so in real life.

Yes, thanks, I didn't account that OT is probably at 1.5x. It still isn't a living wage. A 16hr day is $280 pre tax. 7 days every week for 4 months (16wks) is less than $32k. You could probably live on that, but it would be paycheck to paycheck. Unfortunately too many people do. We might agree that a lot of this is no ones fault but the one making the choice earlier in life (when decision making typically sucks). Not learning a skill or going to college has consequences. But if you are a politician, these people vote and don't want to hear it is their fault. We learned that during the last crisis. People who took out mortgages they couldn't afford deflected blame to the bank that loaned them the money. It is just human nature.

Another way to look at that is that if you can't get to a point early in your life to afford the basic necessities, saving is a dream. The cost of college, including trade schools (most of these are Junior colleges, btw), is at an all time high, and many people can't afford it. Likewise, there are fewer programs available that can help get people placed into trades either as apprentices or in gov't program sponsored positions (some states have started to address this, btw).

It's easy to blame citizens for the faults of our overlords, but let's be honest: low cost mortgages were incentivized by a financial industry that prized top dollar returns in the short term rather than long term market stability. We've lost trillions in grift through 20 years of war, bailouts for banks, etc. Wealth inequality is at an all time high and while individuals do and should bear some of the blame, we also need to recognize that there is a system in place encouraging people to make some extremely poor decisions in order to maximize company profits.

I know daycare rates. I know what it takes. Minimum wage jobs pay minimum wage because of MINIMUM skill. Learn a skill and capitalize upon it. I know bartenders that make huge money. There's literally a million jobs that a single mother could do to provide for her kids. Case and point. One of the ladies that works in my office is a single mother. She works 40 hours a week. Isn't living above her means. Doesn't drive a fancy car. But she makes ends meet. She can do it. Why can't anyone else? She learned how to do accounting and now helps our main controller. Fairly simple to learn. Doesn't require crazy hours. Where there's a will there's a way.

You don't think I hear about it from people who work here? They complain about it all the time... My friends all have kids. I tend to spend my time with people between 28 to mid 30s.

I spent a year and a half out of grad school working in the labor portion of manufacturing. Sometimes people can’t just up and move, for various reasons.

Trust me man, we were all ignorant at 22 (and maybe even 32, or 33 right now lol). Answers are rarely as simple as they seem and circumstances are rarely as straightforward as you think. I already explained my personal circumstances. If my 3 y/o had to go to daycare instead of staying home with me it completely soak up our excess monthly cash flow pretty quick. And we're not minimum wage, not by a long shot.

Take a step back, realize that your life and experience represent you alone, and that most people that have been on this earth 10, 20, 30+ years longer than you may have a better understanding how it works. No one is hating on you (or at least, they shouldn't be), but a little humility will take you a long way in life.
