...Also curious what the estimate on dressed-weight (hide/meat-combined) packing out was..?

.

I'd say mine was an "average sized" MT bear. I weighed my pack when I got home..just because it felt pretty heavy (Heavier than a normal elk load etc.). I've never shoved the meat and hide into the same pack before, so I was curious. It was like 86 or 87 pounds, minus coat, gun, and spotter. So with my 10 1/2 pound gun I was pushing 100 lbs on the pack out.

Kurt..that is a trophy.

A strange dude rolled into my camp at about 11PM said he'd seen 5 bears and missed one. He took one of my Old Mils and left. Friggin hunters...

Wasnt me.....laffin!

Great pics of the kids. You should bring them up here this summer for a weekend of prairie dog shooting. I've got access to a virgin town north of Jordan that is unreal....

Congrats Pat. That is another monster.

Hey Greenie, you might want to hide the location of that blonde bear and save him for next year.

Or better yet, I will trade you the GPS locations for a spot where I know you can shoot an 85" antelope in October. Deal?

Looks like your kids were having a lot of fun Greenhorn, not that it's hard to have fun wandering the hills and killing indiscriminately.

That blond one is very nice. Saw three last night, one looked just like that, but its ears were giant. It must suck to miss a bear.

It might be tough to have missed as many bears as me. I could possibly qualify for the Guiness book record in that category.

I heard a rumor once, about a guy who missed the same bear, in the same meadow, 2 nights in a row...and then killed it the third night. Can't remember the guys' name though..

It wasn't a meadow, but a steep, rocky, semi-timbered ridge and it happened over a week, not 3 nights in a row, and I only missed him once, scared him off the first time. I was super close and had to stand on my tiptoes to shoot, I lost my footing when shooting and missed him by a mile. Next time I got him.. but there was a lot of shooting. :D This is the bear, 2004. He was 14 years old if I remember right.

We got some great photos of that bear, just uploaded these ones.. I shot him in the trees to the left, he ran above this rockslide and died at the top of it. He was a really pretty one.

I think my eyes are playing tricks on me, but in that first shot it looks like you stabbed it with a large tree..:eek:?!

Reminds me of the famed HOGZILLA pic.

Kurt, thats pretty cool....this bear was also 14 years old....I had missed one colored exactly like it six years earlier on the exact same hillside....I always figured it was the same one.(shot in 1991)

Awesome pics guys! That hog of a blond bear looks like a good one Kurt. The kids look like they're having a blast too.

Though GH may qualify (though I doubt it) for the Guiness book on missing bears, he'd definitely qualify for consecutive years of killing much larger than average bears. How many is it now?

After a pep talk from Kurt last night I tried a completely different area that he recommended. Walked right into a bear at ten yards. Unfortunately it was a sow... with cubs... an hour after shooting light. Shit got a little tense with her snapping her jaw and growling, but I got her to finally back down.

At least it wasn't a Griz.... that would have sucked...

I think if you did a sizing ratio of me and a normal human, a hundred and fifty pound blackie sow is the equivalent of most people running into a grizzly.

I thought about that afterward though, especially with crittergetter's run in last year, that I think I'll stick to hunting non grizzly areas in the spring.
