What powder do you lke for your 7mm08 ? I have several powders some on the slow side like IMR4831,Accurate 3100, Reloader 22 . Also some 4064 and 4350. Got to start somewhere. Loading Hornady 139 grain BTSP.
You can get by with the 4064, or 4350, but you may not get the best velocities. I've found Varget and RL-15 work very well, though I've seen published data that RL-16 shows a lot of promise. (Just have to find some)
Also, it's going to depend on what weight bullet you plan on shooting. My rifle likes RL-15 with 120's and 150's but hates the 140's. Varget is just the opposite....go figure.
I'm going to try CFE223 since I have so much of it on hand. I'm not sure I'm going to like it so I'm planning to have H4350 or Varget on ready for backups.
I have always used IMR4350 in my 7mm-08. But, I have not tried other powders. I don't remember offhand the charge weight, but I know its maximum in the Nosler manual and used 140 grain Partitions and 140 grain Accubonds now. Very good accuracy out of a Remington Model 7 FS with a Leupold VX3 2.5-8.
I have yet to reload anything in my life but am gearing up too. I've picked up Varget, RL15, IMR4350, and H4895 for my 30-06 and 7mm08 based on my research. RL15 and Varget seemed to be well regarded for the 7mm08.
I have 2 7mm 08's and they both shoot about the same with all of the loads I have tried. With 140 accubonds my best loads were with 4064 or varget, and the 120 grain loads best was varget. I also tried 4350 but didn't have very good accuracy.
42.5 grains Varget with 140 grain bullet (tsx, partition). Usually 2,850fps. Have killed many critters up to elk and farmed bison. Have never had to shoot over 200 yards though.
