Could use some good advise on some rain gear for a fishing trip to Alaska. Not sure what to buy and this is coming from a guy that froze his arse off in the Pacific Northwest! Appreciate any help I can get. Andy

I used a cheap heavy plastic pair from Scheels and a buddy used the Frogg Toggs...the heavy plastic did a nice job of keeping me dry and dealt with the ocean winds better than expected.

Have a blast!

The fishing guides I have used ALL wore oversized Frogg Toggs to allow for layering underneath and no-one ever complained.
I personally purchased Helly Hanson for my Alaskan hunt 3 years ago, it hasn't rained since...

You may want to check out an army surplus if you are on a budget I was at one in desoto wisconsin the other day they had alot of gortex woodland camo rain gear for sale there new and used I think it was like $20.00 for a top and $20.00 for bottoms.Being they are gortex it is worth looking into they seemed noisy but for fishing it should not matter they would also be rain proof.

What kinda fishing - deep water for halibut and salmon and other species, rivers via boat or raft, or hiking/walking to streams and rivers to flyfish?

If you're doing the first two, anything that is rainproof and will allow for layers underneath will work. If you're doing the hike to streams and rivers option, you want something that won't tear eaasily when you walk through brush and step over logs, etc.

I like Helly Hansen Impertech myself, but I do more huinting than fishing in AK.

What he said - HH.
Gore tex will get OVERWHLEMED & leak. At least, that's happened to all that I ever had. Same for Cabela's Dry Plus & MTO50.
You need something that's waterproof.

Wow, Desoto has an army surplus now??? Last time I was in that town the Bright Spot was the only stable business besides two small bars up the hill and a gas station. The world is a growing!

You'll throw those fog toggs in the trash the first day it rains. Get yourself a Helly Hansen Impertech Jacket and bibs, and get them big enough to get some warm clothing under them. You'll want some X'tra tuff boots too.

I've fish guided in SE AK 500+ days, and had plenty of guys show up with the latest and greatest gore tex rain gear, only to be miserable in the first 3 hours.
