Hankering for a throwback look on a Kimber Classic. Really like the look of the red kick pad with walnut and blue. Can't find a whole lot of info...am presuming I'll need to use a grind fit. What say ye gun sooths? Gimme something before I talk to a gunsmith.

I'd be all over a red Pachmyer (sp?). If that rifle has wood as nice as most Classics, it'd definitely dress it. Sorta old school custom look.

And yes, I'm thinking it'd be a grind to fit pad.

I would agree with that 100%!!! If you have a gunsmith do the work, one other suggestion I would have would be to have the stock altered around the action/bolt port. The straight line of the Kimber is a bit off putting to me.

Notice the cutout/bevelling below the action port in the lower picture. The lack of one on a Kimber is one of those things that never bothered me, until I noticed it. Now I can't get over looking at it!!

Then you're GTG!! IIRC from reading an article from a famous gunmaker, he prefers the red Pachmyr pad designed for trap shotguns. It has a hard(er) portion at the tip to lessen the chance that it will hang up on clothing. Makes sense, I think... Just something to consider.

The stock beveling at the ejection port does look nice.

...now to find find a U of Texas pad.:);)

For the price of that one, you could probably get 2 dozen Kimbers...

Nice looking Mauser sporter; hope mine looks as nice when I finish with it. The metal work on the bolt knob looks familiar, any idea who did the bolt or if the handle is a purchase item?
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread.
