I often have a similar initial reaction to this type of stuff. But if I put myself in the shoes of the other person, I realize that my rejection of their request may seem like it comes from an opposite agenda. I would guess 90% of people on both sides of the issue are reasonable folks that just want to be understood and not attacked.
I agree. Im not offended by it, I just think it feeds the right’s negative obsession with the topic.

My biased gut reaction is a product of the times I grew up in. (I’m 55.) Now that I know people who have come out it sure makes me think about it differently.

half of the new testament is letters to churches trying to correct the very same behaviors and arguments that turn people away from churches in the modern day.

Wait, hold up a minute. Who has the negative obsession with the topic?
I don't see straight pride month.
I don't see hetrosexual pride parades.
I don't see hetrosexual folk making an issue out of making sure society gets their pronouns right.
I have heard of gay bars but never heard of straight bars.
I don't see straight pride bumper stickers all over cars for everyone to see.
Seems to me LGBT is not at all wanting equality, they are obsessed with forcing that filth on everyone even children. Look what Disney recently did and on and on.

The reason why things like “straight pride” months aren’t necessary is because straight folks don't killed and hung from fences for being open about their identity.

Straight folks also don’t get called filth or an abomination for simply being who they are. This is their way of saying they are real people and not being ashamed of it.

Let's not pretend Christians don't get called all kinds of names for being who they are. Bible believing Christians are some of the most hated people out there. Yet we're expected to just take it. Many Christians are feeling the pressure to go along with agendas that totally violate personal religious beliefs with the threat of being singled out and/or losing your job. It won't be long until the Bible will be considered hate speech. Christians all over the world are being killed simply for their faith. Churches burned down, people imprisoned for the name of Jesus Christ. Most main stream media won't cover it. Do some research on how many countries it's illegal to be a Christian, go to church, own a Bible. Christians may not be physically suffering in the U S. but seldom are gays being killed or hanging from fences.
Our countries problem is not a political problem it's a sin problem.
Jesus spoke to people of his day and said it would be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgement than for the people of his time. Jesus explained to them if Sodom would have seen his mighty works they would have repented. Sodom didn't have Jesus with them, no disciples or prophets yet the people of Christ time had him yet many continued in sin therefore they will have less mercy in judgement day.

I am a patriotic person and love America but in a spiritual sense America is worse than Sodom & Gomorrah.
Sodom had no Bible, no churches, no prophets.
America has been blessed by God Almighty above most countries, it's the greatest place in the world to live. America has a church on every corner, freedom to worship, freedom to have a Bible. America has had some awesome revivals and awakenings. Has had great early evangelist. America has been a gospel rich country.
Yet we have turned our backs on God, God has been kicked out of our schools, no more prayer in school, now look at the results, school shootings, high teenage pregnancy, high teenage suicides, drug and alcohol abuse, etc.
God is kicked out of government, no 10 commandments on government properties, separation of church and state, etc. When you kick God out there are consequences. Our country desperately needs to repent and get back to God. Wether you choose to believe the Bible or not one can't deny the fact that if the majority of our country lived by it there would be no need for jail, prison, divorce court, juvenile detention centers, alcoholics anonymous, drug rehab, no abused children, no women's help hotlines, no gamblers anonymous, no porn addiction that destroys families, and the list continues.
Part of the reason society doesn't have confidence in the "church" and God is partly because sin has crept into the church. Church leaders turning a blind eye to sin and afraid to call it out because it will affect their pocket books. Most of what people see in America concerning church is what they see on t.v.
Prosperity preachers making millions. Fake junk, men calling themselves preachers but not living right. Powerless sermons because they have prayerless lives. Men pleasers and pleasure lovers. There have been so called religious leaders involved in many scandals, have multiple wives and women on the side. Live in multi million dollar homes and no regard to the poor and needy.
Judgement will begin first with the church. It's time churches clean themselves up. It's time America turn to Godliness and Holiness. We cry God bless America but is America really blessing God?
Yet in all of this there are people doing their absolute best to love God and follow his word without compromise no matter the cost. Many in history have given their lives for their testimony of Jesus Christ. When we consider the great cost of our Saviour on the cross for all sinners it saddens us to see the immorality of our land and direct disobedience and disrespect to God that has given us so much.
Over 300 scribes and translaters were killed by Queen Mary hence the name bloody Mary for translating the Bible into English. Many, many, thousands of Christians have been starved, beaten, fed to lions, sawn in two, burned at the stake, etc. Just a few reasons why Christians are "obsessed".

Mathew Sheppard died a death similar to Jesus Christ. Both beaten and left to die because society viewed them as an abomination.

Whatever you do the least of my brothers you do unto me.

In a pragmatic and scientific world, it would be entirely reasonable to view Christians (or any reigion for that matter) as crazy and quite possibly dangerous to society.

Me, I’ll continue to battle to love my neighbor as I’ve been instructed to do.

Matthew Shepard sadly and unfortunately was murdered, I get that.
However Christ's death is completely incomparable.
Jesus is God's son, impeccable and completely without sin. He "gave" his life in laying it down for all the world including Matthew Shepard.
Jesus lived a perfect sinless life and died to redeem mankind from all of his filthyness.
No comparesion of the two.

Sin is what is dangerous to society for the "wages of sin is death".

Loving your neighbor does not mean accepting sin. Loving your neighbor means being kind while telling them the truth.
Jesus last command on earth was after his resurrection.
" Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved. He that believeth not shall be damned.

Exactly. And many are trying or have already tried to make the Bible hate speech because it contradicts lifestyle choices that we are told to accept as normal.

Jesus was God in the flesh. But based on your post I suspect no amount of scripture would change your mind as you sir quite possibly have a reprobate mind. I hope not but it seems that way.
What a vicious post that I didn't expect from you as I have enjoyed your post over the years.
Best wishes.

Its always been of interest to me that all the religious people who say that the LBGQT people need to keep quiet, "not push their agenda/beliefs on me", and keep their beliefs to themselves haven't found that extremely hypocritical.

Yet, those religious folk seem to have absolutely no trouble forcing their agenda on schools, government properties, and quite frankly the front steps of my home.

I've had exactly ZERO LBGQT folks ever try to make me believe their agenda or push their beliefs on me.

That's exactly the polar opposite of various organized religions that have literally knocked on my door trying to sell me on their beliefs and agenda. Or the mountains of people who claim because I'm not sitting in a pew every Sunday that I'm surely bound for hell.

I've always had trouble reconciling that...

Beliefs are interesting, and here’s why. Much of what is written here embodies all of the reasons I have avoided organized religion. Where many Christians totally lose me is when they list all the ways they are persecuted for being religious, then turn around and use religion as a justification to persecute others and force their belief system on people who hold different beliefs, in the name of “truth” and religious freedom. Freedom only works one way I guess. Worship how you want, but please respect that my beliefs may not align with yours, and that is indeed the beauty of religious freedom and the separation of church and state in America.

Who says the truth according to you is the truth anyway? There have been thousands of interpretations of religious writings over several millennia, and multiple religions that all claim with the same absolute conviction to corner the market on the truth. When it comes to the realm of belief, I don’t know how anyone can truly claim truth is not subjective.

To the point of the OP, I don’t care what people choose to do with their bodies, in their love life, or what pronouns they want to use as long as they treat others with decency and fairness. At the end of the day, all I know for sure is I don’t know much and passing judgement is way above my pay grade. That’s between them and whatever creator might exist. I will try my best to treat humans with empathy and kindness and let the rest go because I’m not under any illusion that I have superior powers of judgement nor that I have control of anything beyond that.

Will the way forward be unclear and difficult at times? Yes. Will people be scared of new ideas? Definitely. Will everyone get their way? No. Will we pendulum back and forth as we figure out the best course to deal with some of these new issues? Probably. Is any of this an existential crisis? Not likely.

Our country, government, schools was founded on God sir.

Do you not ever hear the news?
