Nov 3 - Independents’ Day?

Yes, and math at published vote numbers show Bodnar winning with addition of Democratic numbers.

Yes, that is a reasonable assumption, depending on when Bankhead dropped and then supported Bodnar.
What it tells me as another reasonable and logical assumption is that Seth Bodnar is a strong political entity in Montana.

Why do you wish to be argumentative about such assumptions which are logically valid ... however unprovable, of course?
Big tent is the new normal...

The good news is 194 passed so you will get to see who is pushing the state further to the right. At least until it gets challenged.

Perhaps he would be strategically best-served to lean into that, especially since the brand is seemingly improving (for now anyway).
I'm not so sure about that here in MT. Nationally, absolutely, but Bankhead's supporters and MT's democratic leadership really turned people off to the democratic brand this cycle.

I'm sure he'll keep that option open and see how things look after a year. If Dems use their power in Washington for a revenge tour and don't actually try and govern, he'll be smart to stay independent. If dems in DC actually fix things and the brand gets stronger here, then maybe.

I see it breaking down that way as well.

The fact that a R won almost 50% of the vote in Montana last night was alarming, I don’t realize they swung quite that far. That’s far to the right of Texas at present, which seems crazy.

It really does. I attribute that to two things: first, Covid/Yellowstone drove quite a few MAGA types to MT fleeing states they felt were too liberal, including Texas, and our governor has welcomed them with open arms. Second, we don't have the huge population of Latino voters like Texas does, and they have proved to be a highly influential voting bloc down there for both sides.

Results link below.

If you look at how many people voted, it was only about 57% of the state that's registered who voted. Who knows how those would have voted if they voted.

There are a few deep blue parts of the state. Missoula, for example, the Rs got only about 28% for Flint and 25% for Alme. I'm sure there are other counties with similar results either mostly D or mostly R.

Are you a betting man? 😁

I know i have my doubts (hopes?) but i imagine there will be much more time spent on the oppression measuring contest, bathroom confusion, and all out calls for the end of captalism instead of responsible governance.
Dems just flipped 7 senate seats and 29 house seats. I don't think they are worried much about their "Brand" in Montana.

These are all more right-wing projections of what the left cares about moreso than what the left actually cares about. That's particularly true concerning where people defecate; other people's genitalia as it supposedly dictates and relates to where they get to leave their excrement is not something democrats fixate on the same way many on the right do.

But I'm certainly not making any bets. The Rule of Law should still matter, people should be held to account. But hyper-fixating on the past does nothing for people's pocketbooks in the present, and dems did run on that platform. We'll see if they deliver.

They will be in four more years while the pendulum swings.

Yep, exactly.

I don’t blame you the touchdown dance @SAJ-99, but Dems didn’t win because they are at all popular. They won because their opponent was a bit worse (and historically, it was their turn).

That is very fragile.

I'm not doing any type of touchdown dance. I am positive that a lot of voters made incumbent politicians accountable rather than vote for more of the same. I agree they didn't win for popularity reasons, but Repubs didn't win for that reason in 2024 either. Maybe the constant is that voters are always unhappy.

I am gonna disagree, at least in the states of Minnesota and Iowa. For once, Democrats put up candidates that I found very attractive and easy to vote for as opposed to simply voting against the opposition. I do not know if the Democratic party made a mistake in doing this, or if they finally discovered the idea of a competent candidate, but I would say they had quite a few good candidates out there. Unlike many other years.

I dont agree - and while thats true of the dem party at large in Montana, its far from that nationally. You can see the typical tada and todo about "firsts" if you google much about some of the elected reps. I should have added - lots of time on "impeachment" - which will ultimately do nothing for the pocket books. As far as corruption - much like the epstein stuff - corruption only means something if you hold everyone (including some of your own) accountable. The credibility is there for anyone willing to stomach doing the right thing. I predict pandering and pretending there as well, instead of telling the truth.

Besides all of that - if we were to ever hope to bring fuel costs down (the driver of inflation), we'd need to build a lot of refineries. Im sure @406dn could explain better, but my understanding is that most refineries are set up for "light/sweet" crude where we produce mostly "heavy/sour" crude. I doubt highly that fuel costs come down with the new blue leadership, or expanded leadership, especially considering there are many elected reps that would like to "transition away" from the fossil fuel industry entirely in a hopelessly short term.
