Newest US Senate Land Sale Amendment

I would be absolutely shocked if the bill is killed in the Senate for this sole purpose. If you follow and read all of the total news headlines about this bill, the noise about Lee's part is nothing compared to everything else.

In fact, I went through the first 20 headlines from a google search for "big beautiful bill" and not a single one talks about or mentions the public land sell off. Perhaps that is because of the geolocation having me in WI? It is sad but as @Big Fin already pointed out on this thread, its going to be tough to find Senators that have this item as a top ten item on their list regarding this bill. Its a big uphill climb for sure.

Extending TCJA and Medicaid will always get the spot light in this bill. Lighting up Senator's phone lines is key.

I sent in and visited with one of our members locally on this issue. Sen. Thune and Dusty support this. Unsure of Senator Rounds but I am guessing he will.

Fingers crossed they follow through. Thune has enough power if he wanted to he could kill it today, so I'm not sure how I feel about him saying that yet

“ Reject Marx and Lenin. Embrace Private ownership.”

I view such ridiculousness as a good sign he’s feeling the heat. I called Idaho’s senators today. I’ll call mine and them again tomorrow.

I am getting sick of pundits saying “we know Lee is a smart guy” before a discussion. I in turn, scratch my head and say “do we really?”. Then my dog looks at me funny as we drive down the road. Then I get embarrassed and change the channel to Turbo.

Did the same exact thing today. I was thinking, while we were out and I was untangling my kids’ lines that had somehow wrapped together for the sixth or seventh time, that I’ve made more phone calls in the last week than I ever have in my adult life. And I’m not just talking about phone calls to members of Congress, I’m talking phone calls period. More than when my first kid was born or when my dad was in the hospital. Back at it again tomorrow. Today was fun though—reminded me what all these phone calls are about.

Wasn’t it Rep Jason Chaffetz a few years ago that had to learn the hard way that public land transfer/sales is universally unpopular? I guess Sen Lee is gonna need to get the same lesson.

Lee got an item added to this bill (and a non budget item in a bill that only requires 51 votes) that 70% of Americans don’t like. And most of his colleagues that directly oppose the idea are silent. He isn’t an idiot. An asshole? Yes. At the very least he diverted the attention of a majority of the population on how this bill is going to screw in other ways.

From nothing less than Sen. Mike Lee’s own mouth, in just the last few days, comes a clear picture of his true colors: He has resorted to outright lies, disinformation, and straw man arguments in defense of his amendment.

Completely apart from his public land ideology, at least have some f—-ing balls and stand firm on what you believe in instead of weaseling around. A public land fire sale might actually have had a chance if it was championed by someone with some moral character.

That is because someone with moral character would have a legit plan in place to benefit all Americans.

For example: The claim is a need for more affordable housing and expansion of urban areas such as Las Vegas right? I'm sure there is some BLM land adjacent to Las Vegas that developers would pay a nice price for and the proceeds from such a sale could be used to purchase willing seller private land elsewhere that has a high habitat value.

I think the Teddy Roosevelts of the world landing in Congress or the Presidential chair are over though so this is just dreaming.

We gave LV a bunch of BLM for affordable housing, schools. They built one school and a small subdivision.
Homes there are selling for millions now and none are affordable.
