Newest US Senate Land Sale Amendment

This one opens the door to a lot of other Senators. Elkhart Indiana likes to call themselves the "RV Manufacturing Capital of the World."

If you live in Indiana, specifically Elkhart County, Rep Rudy Yakym is your guy - https://yakym.house.gov

Your Senators are Todd Young and Jim Banks, both Republicans would could help Daines get more support for Senate Majority Leader Thune to have a private meeting with Senator Lee to get this scrubbed or whittled down to something that addresses a real problem.

For you WI residents, the good news is that Johnson is very strongly opposed to the current state of the Senate bill based on his own report that he released today.

Sent him another email today, copy and paste and send to him if you wish:

Dear Senator Johnson,

I have been following along with the progress that the House and now the Senate has been making with producing the legislation that is known as the Big Beautiful Bill to balance the federal budget. While I'm extremely pleased that both you and Senator Baldwin currently oppose the current form of the bill, I'm disappointed that the report you released today regarding the legislation did not contain a single mention of how horrible the item in there regarding the sell off of America's public lands is. I'm very concerned about the federal land sales provision included from Utah Senator Mike Lee that would allow for the sell off of millions of acres of BLM and national forest lands across the Western US.

While this provision does not have an immediate and direct impact to WI and the people here that you represent, I want to remind you that these public lands are all of our lands as US citizens. Remember that the public land estate was INTENTIONALLY WITHDRAWN from private ownership and development by great conservation minded leaders like Theodore Roosevelt because they knew that they represented the TRUE HEALTH AND WEALTH of the nation. I find it a little bit ironic that this move from Senator Lee lands into a piece of legislation to balance the federal budget as he is willing to give up and sell off the most valuable asset America has.

I also fear that this could also potentially open the door and opportunity for future legislation that could impact WI by targeting federal lands without our state borders. Our state is very fortunate to have a vast amount of public land for our enjoyment in such close proximity to our home. Federal ownership is around 1.5 million acres and is managed for multiple uses, including timber harvesting and recreation which impacts a large portion of our citizens in this state.

It is my hope that you will continue to oppose this legislation until this portion of the legislation is removed. I also support many of the reasons you also have included in your own report and support you in continuing to oppose this legislation until the spending is further cut to help balance the budget.
You have a lot more faith in Johnson than I do......he is a full fledged MAGA idiot and will fall in line just like the rest of them if President Taco Trump threatens him with a primary.

Historically I would agree with you but I found it to be a huge win that he publicly came out yesterday against the bill. May not have been because of the public land sell off clause but its still a vote at this moment preventing it from moving forward to the house in its current state.

He doesn't like it because of the money impact, which sort of makes sense because it's a budget. Pretty sure, he will vote yes if it came down to it. The party really wants this thing passed. I recommend everyone letting the House Representative know as well. They are all up for reelection in 2026 and it looks to be DOA if it got there in its present form for a variety of reasons.

It is incredibly frustrating that I don't have any ability to impact this. My congressional reps are all Ds, therefore against it. There is no room for nuanced voting. that every potential piece of legislation has to get packaged together and voted on as a block of Us vs Them, D vs R, winner takes all battle. This is a terrible way to run a country.

But this will live or die on whether or not the general Rs can convince some of their Reps/Senators to vote against Trump, not on REI or Outside Mag coming out against it. Not by calling Cantwell or AOC. Heck, I'm not sure if it helps or hurts to have anything viewed as being on the left side of the spectrum coming out publicly against it.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is also in full performative politics mode, pretending like her illiterate ass won't vote for the bill but she is in the heart of Trumpistan and will do whatever he tells her to do. The democratic party is a joke don't get me wrong but I'm tired of hunting celebrities being quiet in November knowing this on the platform and then pretending like they at shocked when rubber meets the road.

That may be the case but his words yesterday were pretty strong against it. The people of this state can now hold him accountable if he happens to vote yes without any amendments and after yesterday it was very clear he is voicing saying he is voting no until amendments are made.

Lots of people on the Hunting Arizona Facebook page think it’s a good thing. The center for biological diversity is against it, and it is being proposed by R, therefore they have to be for it.
Classic Arizona. I've been sending this to most everyone I know back home but there are a few who suffer from this kind of brainrot that I just haven't bothered with

With the PLT transfer people - i at least understand the misconception.

I cant think of anyone whod benefit (except a few) if the stuff gets sold off.

Yes, that was my point with Daines. His ‘No’ is his only asset in the negotiation.

I laugh at this. Dems are fine. They have zero power so they can sit back and complain, much like the Repubs did when they were the minority. The problem Repubs have now is they are very much divided, and not just on the public lands issue. They think they don’t need Dem votes so there is no reason to compromise with them. They just have to wrangle together groups with varying and opposing ideologies.

Our political system is broken.

You should be including in your daily list of calls, Senator Thune. He controls the power in R. He might start to see a real issue in getting Trump his BBB if Lee gets to continue.

Also, takes just a sec, but McConnell is a lame duck, who seems to enjoy sticking it to trump, i got an answeing machine, but what the hell.

is it possible that Trump's wildly erratic and nonsensical unpredictability and the resultant polarization of his own base and party could be our very savior?

is this a potential for credit where credit is due??

Here’s something to ponder. From realtor.com article yesterday. These are likely mostly vacation properties, yet still come up officially as “vacant” so hard to say.

Maine has the highest vacancies, at 157,467 vacant homes, followed by Vermont(67,606) and Alaska (59,745), according to LendingTree.”
Not to mention - all of the housing in inner cities thats abandoned.

Detroit used to have twice the people it does now.

Having just moved to Washington, I think we do have a chance to impact this. Washington Representative Dan Newhouse is an "R" on the new Public Lands Caucus. Even if not in his District, as a Washington resident, his vote impacts all Washington Public Lands -- not to mention those in the other 10 states -- and for that reason, I intend to be contacting his office if this proposed sale stays in the Senate version. I've also already emailed Washington BHA and TU and asked that they reach out to members in his District to make sure he hears directly from his own constituents what an "abomination" this idea is.

Everybody should check that list of members on the Public Lands Caucus, and if there's an R member in your state, do the same!!
