Didn’t make it out on opening weekend due to having to work. I had scouted the unit at the beginning of the month and found where I wanted to be when I did head back. Left out of town on Thursday afternoon and had camp setup just in time to do some glassing and had a few bucks spotted around camp. Woke up Friday morning and found this buck about 600 yards from camp. We watched him feed and then bed for about 30 minutes. He wasn’t in a good spot to put a stalk on so we just kept a watch on him and looked for others. He eventually got up and was spooked by something. He moved out to about a mile from us and started feeding down a ridge. He fed over the top and out of sight. I decided to head the direction I thought he was headed to try and cut him off. He hadn’t made it as far as I thought but after a little back tracking we found him down in a drainage. As soon as we peeked over the top he was standing at about 150 yards and had us immediately pinned down. I knew I had to work fast. I dropped my pack and started to get ready. By this time he had already started to trot back up the hill. He stopped perfectly broadside and my son ranged him at 200. I tried to calm the nerves quickly and sent a round down range. Shot was high. Buck fever had got the best of me. The buck turned and ran up the drainage away from us. He stopped again. This time he was quartered away. Sent the second shot and this time heard it connect. He ran about 20 yards and fell. After some hugs and high fives we made it over to him. This was my first Nevada antelope tag and couldn’t be more pleased with him.

Awesome buck! My son has a pronghorn tag here in UT that we will head out for in about 1.5 weeks. He would be beyond ecstatic to get a buck like that!
