My buddy Mike and his son Ryan came to hunt with me for a mule deer hunt this past fall. Mike is a prince of a man, a one of the most humble people I know. I have taken a lot of friends and family out over the years, and he is by far one of my favorites to take. He has had a lot of health scares in his life and lost Ryan's mom to cancer when she was only 49, and so every hunt and every memory made is really special to him and you can tell by the reverence and gratitude he has each time he gets a deer.

Both ended up filling their tags on nice bucks. Mike always wants Ryan to go first and, after a couple of days and lots of miles on the boots we ran into a situation I have never been in before. We came across a buck that looked wounded with his leg flopping. We decided to go after him and try and put him down. We ended running into the other hunters later on and they were happy for the closure. Mike's hunt was quick but very rewarding.
Thought some of you might enjoy the story.
