Hey guys,
This isn't the largest racked deer I've ever shot, but I'm particularly proud, since I shot him on public land within an hour of the twin cities. I was set up in my stand at 5:45 A.M. An hour and 45 minutes prior to season. I had 5 deer come through about 15 minutes after that, but you couldn't even tell what they were because it was so dark. 10 1/2 hours of sitting in the tree stand later I heard something a few hundred yards to the east. I saw antlers and I knew I was going to take it (you don't get picky on public land around here
)! I lined up on the only opening I had a squeezed off the shot once the shoulder was there. The rest is history. This was far and away biggest bodied deer I ever shot (best setimates are 200-220# and I got to drag him for almost a mile through a huge grass swamp and oak forest.Sorry the pictures are crap. All I had was my phone and I was alone. When I got home my first thought was to get it hung up, skinned out and to get in bed after 4 hours of dragging and getting up at 3:15 A.M. The sceond picture is particularly poor quality, but I took it to show the massive body size of this guy. If you're out of shape and want a workout drag a dead buck a mile through a swamp in the dark. I really need to start deboning these in the field and packing them out on my back!
I love hunting!
