Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable long weekend. Thanks to all the servicemen and women out there.

Thanks to all that have served our great country and for all those that gave all...my hat is off and my head is bowed...my deepest gratitude!

Having family who served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam (lost my Uncle), Desert Storm - Thank you to ALL those who placed lives on the line so others may live in the "land of the brave and home of the free".

X3 or 4 or 5 NHY's thread - My prayers with ALL the families whom have lost loved ones fighting for the country whom sent them to war.

Include me on the Thank You list. We appreciate everything our service men & women have done for us.

Agree with the rest...and a few cool pictures to share.

My Grandfather on my Moms side, just before deployment to the Philippines during WWII:

These pictures are of my wifes father also taken during WWII. My Father-in-law was a B-17 pilot/co-pilot and flew, IIRC, 36 missions over Germany. He took some pretty amazing pictures, heres a few:

My wifes Dad there on the left.

fantastic pictures to commemerate BuzzH! Thanks for sharing some of your family pics. Hats off to your family for all done to support America.

Very cool pics Buzz.

I need to get a scanner. I have some pics of my Grandfather getting ready to ship to Siapan and need to get them scanned and saved somewhere.

Also have some of my step-father while he was in Guadalcanal with the First Marines. Watched the HBO series "The Pacific" and all I could think about is what those guys must have went through on that island. And it makes me realize just what kind of sacrifices have been made by so many in the hundreds of years before Guadalcanal and the 67 years since then.

Not sure there are too many countries in the world, where most every citizen has a very close connection to a family member who has served for our freedom, or is currently serving.

Of all the holidays, this is the one I always attend services for. Monday morning I will join a friend who spent the entire time at Khe Sanh, while it was under siege in 1968. I always join him, and one of his other Khe Sanh Marine buddies who travels to here for the services. Like all other service members, these guys have my greatest admiration and respect for their service.

Thanks again to all who have served, and are serving.

Very awesome pictures in deed. Yea Fin I need to get a scanner as well. I have some cool pics of my Dad during Korea. At least five generations in our family (that I know of) served in the US Army.

I'll be out playing in the rain trying to punch my bear tag during the last couple days of the season, without a care in the world.

Big thanks to the people who gave the greatest sacrifice, as well as Mr. Cushman and any other hunttalker's who are also veterans, who are the reason why I'm able to do the above mentioned.

I`m going to remind my teen kids that this is not just another long hoiday weekend but a lot of men and women die for the freedom that we have. I`m planning on visiting my grandfathers grave, who served in WW2 and then we will go to the nursing home to visit a gentleman who goes to my church, when he can, who was in Normandy on D-Day.

BuzzH, love the pictures! The B-17 was an increadable plane that could take a licking. The sound of the B-17s and P51`s struck alot of fear in our enemies. Both have very distinct sounds! I have always felt for the ball turret gunner and tail of the B-17. There were times when the landing gear would not come down and the guys would be stuck in the belly...nasty! One vet refered to it as "red streak landing". The tail was sometimes refered to as "coffins corner".

As a matter of fact, we have a B-17 sitting 100 yards outside my office (airport) this weekend for display.

Awesome pictures Buzz. Thanks for sharing and a big thanks to those who have served our country in the armed forces. We have so many freedoms here that we only enjoy because of those who have served.

Siapan? If dad has a few too many beverages when we are up hunting he will tell us a few stories of Siapan, New Guinea, Biak Island and Philippines. Other than that he will never talk about what they all went through. Wife and I spent 3 days at our shack in Oregon and so called dad as soon as I got home last night. First thing he asked, "Son, did you fly your flag today?" I told him that in fact I did and had a picture of our little cabin with a flag flying and was the only one I saw in the area.
