You have to be a quick draw shooter to pull it off under 7 yards. I guess a pointing dog is a must. If ever get back down that way bird hunting I may have to try that, it looks like it could be a great twist to bird hunting. When I was a kid I ran around with my pellet gun and chased the gambles in Tucson so those things bring back some childhood memories

As I already stated, G&F called me and said he was following up on a tip from OYOA that I had shot Mearn's out of season. The warden was very easy to talk to and he seemed a little embarrassed to ask me but as he said " I figured it was an old picture from a previous season but when we get a call we have to check it out "
I hear you but maybe his tip from OYOA was just what I stated. I guess I want to believe that no one here is that stupid not to realize we post pictures here all the time from past seasons. Look at the "lets see them" threads. Also keep in mind it may not be a member here and might be a lurking anti. Regardless I hope you post more in the future.

Whoever dropped the dime about this is super lame. Why not say, "hey Glass eye when were those pics taken. I didn't think the Mearns season started till..."
That's quite a feat with a pistol I have a hard enough time with a 16ga. I hope to take my dog down south and shoot a few Mearns this year if I get some time.

Cool pics and I can't imagine getting it done with a pistol. I feel like a loser that I've never hunted Mearns and I live in Arizona. Not the right part for Mearns, but still... 
Camera took a crap so all I have right now are a few from my cell phone. I'll get more up once I get them from BOY.
Thanks to sbhooper for the info on the guide. We had a great time! The guide met us at the hotel at 8am and we drove about 1.5hrs to where we'd be hunting for the day. His truck is set up not for bird hunting, but is more of a bird assualt vehicle! 4 dog boxes, each with a pointer in it, shelves, cooler and anything else one would need for the day in the back. First 'walk' he let out Dusty. I need to mention that going into this I was not quite sure what kind of hunting this would be like. Needless to say, there was a bit more walking in a bit rougher country than I expected. Google Earth, IMO, makes places seem a bit flatter than they really are.
About 1/2 mile into the walk and Dusty was on point. We slowly walked in and the birds finally got up, but no shots. Those things are small and fast! Not to mention lots of trees for them to put between you and them. Dusty put up 3 more coveys before we headed back to the truck. BOY ended up with two males and a hen on that walk. All I did was burn up some shells...
Second walk, after about a 2 mile drive, he let out Shelby. She ended up putting up 3 more coveys with us getting two more roosters and another hen. I got a rooster and a hen on that walk. The hen was the only bird shot without being pointed first. After the covey (3 birds) flushed, we figured there may be more a round so we catfooted in circles. Just as I saw her at the base of the oak, 10' away she flushed. These things hold TIGHT!
Last walk of the day we let out Max who's quite the award winner in Shoot to Retrieve contests. He put up a couple of singles and one good sized covey on the way back tot the truck. However, our shooting prowess didn't bring any down. All in all it was a very good day and well worth the price we paid. I can see us heading back down that way sometime in the future to try to finish out the AZ quail slam.

I'll post more pics once I get them! Now I just need to figure out how I want the taxidermist to mount the rooster and hen I shot!

I've been very good for the past few months hitting the gym, (it shows right? ) so my ability to walk and recover was good. However, one thing I noticed that the gym doesn't help with is the strength/stability in the lower legs and ankles. Mine got pretty sore/tired by the end of each day. Didn't have that issue much when my job had me out walking the country more.

Heh, speaking of using a handgun for bird... I picked up that fancy Taurus judge a while ago. ran across a nice grouse pecking away. popped off the 410 and the grouse just turned, looked at me then went back to pecking... haha!
