Mearn's Quail?

I may be making a run to AZ in February. Anyone have any tips on finding Mearn's? I wouldn't be against hiring a guide for a day if anyone knows of one that specializes in Mearn's. We'll be south of Tuscon in the Patagonia to Sierra Vista area. Thanks in advance.

PM me your name and phone number. A friend of a friend is a guide down there and specializes in the slam-Mearns, Gambels and Scalies. He has fantastic dogs, too, so it would be fun.

Very nice! Thanks for the inspiration! We'll have to see how the left over draw goes to see if we try to pull this off. I've only shot Gambels and the one I kept for mounting got freezer burnt (more ambition than money then). I'd love to have the AZ quail slam mounted.

That's the plan, if we draw. Wish I'd have been on the ball for the first draw now. But during the application period I didn't know if/when I was going to get my next paycheck. I'll be in touch once we find out what unit we'll be in if at all.

That will make a person think twice about posting pictures on the web again. Nobody wants the man snooping into their life even if it is just the G&F.

Reminds of an incident that became sort of internet lore, especially on ar15.com. It is a technique know as AROCKing. A internet argument turned real life when a member named AROCK decided to contact another site members employer (public school) and the authorities to report the member had child porn on their computer. The man was thoroughly in his life.

Glasseye, first off great photos! Second, tell me a little more about your pistol, what model, caliber, ect??? Lastly and sadly, I'm not surprised someone called F&G on you. I'm disappointed but not surprised. Some folks just can't stand to see others successful and happy. As for me, I think that whacking and stacking some quail with a handgun would be a real kick in the pants and I'd like to try it some day. You got my wheels turning in my head and I'm thinking I might just have "another" reason to pick up a S+W Governor .410/45.

grouse hunting can be done this way as well = high country hand gunnin'!

Ideal range is about 4 yards, and max is about 7. Good thing that Mearn's hold super tight. They'll hunker down and you can almost step on them before they flush.
You won't have to worry about tearing 'em up.
