I need a ? Answered . What's the law in montana regarding rifles on ohv . We may end up on some blm with ohv s and wondering the law , does rifle have to be cased ?

Also as I searched the good ole' MT FWP database, came across this little tid bit. Not sure what state you're from though in the event this applies;

ATVs and motorcycles used off-road on public land trails must be registered as an Off-Highway Vehicle and display a decal. Nonresidents using their OHVs in Montana must purchase a Nonresident Annual Use Permit, which is valid for the calendar year (January 1 – December 31). Residents of Idaho and North Dakota are exempt. The Nonresident Annual Use Permit allows OHV use on trails only. OHVs must be street legal to be ridden on roads. http://fwp.mt.gov/education/outdoorRec/properATV.html

No permit necessary for me I'm from nd . Just curious if gun has to be cased . We will be using a Polaris ranger with a cab .

I have a Viking UTV, enclosed and "street legal". I believe the UTV holds different standards than an ATV though I could be wrong and will wait for an FWP/other LEO inform me otherwise though I've never had an issue... After all, Montana is an "Open carry" if to get get overly technical. I don't think you would have a problem in a UTV... though - in the event, give BLM a holler. Wish I could offer something further. Internet, especially Internet forum posters are always right, even when they disagree!
