Deadheads - Let's see 'em

Whitetail deadhead. Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, South Dakota.

Found on edge of river with spine and bones nearby on bank. I think somebody wounded this buck and it died after moving to water??

Happy hunting, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.

Update: The 2025 South Dakota whitetail deadhead that I found while spring turkey hunting is cleaned and already on the wall.

Good luck 🍀 and happy hunting to all, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.

You must know your way around these sage/breaks country! PM me if you’re near central, I’d appreciate it…

My son and I found it while shed hunting in February, near some train tracks. I snapped my Achilles tendon on my driver side a few weeks later shed hunting. Jumping across a small half frozen creek. Foot just kinda dangled and I knew it wasn’t good but didn’t know how bad…..Woke up on the side of a creek after having pissed myself 😳

Time to go home ….. limped back to the truck 2 miles and drove home

I was by myself of course …..

I can barely watch a hunting video where guys are crossing a creek now …..

Ruptured mine on the same side in January. How is your recovery going?

interesting for sure, I had surgery. Boot time and now in physio. Still cant take on cantered ground very well and some stiffness still and probably only 85% range of motion.

How about you?
Stay at it. PT helped a lot, and then tons of rucking and walking. I bet I’m back to 90%-95% strength, but it gets sore when I sit down in the woods or the morning after a lot of hiking. Still can’t really run that well. Hasn’t slowed me down though now that I’m 8 months post surgery.
