The youth hunt opened up yesterday here in North Idaho and my daughter wanted to give it a go. Opening morning was a bust due to wet and soggy weather but today was a different story with blue sky and sunshine. I picked my 11 yr old up from school and hurried home so we could change and get in the woods.
The birds were sounding off and we made a couple of different set ups before things worked out the way I had hoped. I ended up calling in three young birds from about 250 yrds off. We watched them come down off the hill calling out for the lone hen they could hear but not see. They popped up out of the drainage and on to the skid trail about 15 yrds away. One fanned out and seperated from the other two giving her a perfect shot.

nice job. . .both of you! I took mine to the woods last night to help haul some wood and all she did was stand guard and shoot at her empty gallon water jug. . . shes a pretty good shot @ 7 yrs old. She says she is hunting big bucks with ol' Dad in the fall. . .I hope she does. I love the time with her in the woods.
