My oldest daughter was home from college for the long Christmas break and was seriously devoted to shooting a big buck with the muzzleloader. She hunted almost every evening and only had one shot at a decent buck but in the 5 seconds it took for her to get the sights on him and decide that he was a shooter he was gone into the cedar trees again. She kept at it and never saw another buck bigger than a 1.5 year old. Yesterday when the weather turned even colder and the wind was howling she decided it was time to shoot a doe with the revolver if she had the chance since she wants to fish a little more and has to get back to college. We cut a few branches from a cedar tree and snuggled back into it. She had the sticks set up for a steady shot and an hour later 3 does stepped out. She got the .357 on the sticks and folded one with one shot at 63 yards. It was great season to spend time with her in the woods. Carlee even hunted several evenings on her own and learned a lot this year. She got a bow for Christmas and will begin bowhunting next year. My guess is she will do well at that as well, she has a knack for this stuff!

Nice. I like that we can use a handgun for almost all the seasons. It was cold to sit out for an hour.

I have to say, that is pretty awesome! I love a hunter/huntress who likes a challenge, and actually makes it happen!

Nice. What loads are you using?

Gun is a .357 Ruger GP 100, Factory loads are Hornady 158 grn XTP. Box says 1250 fps. This is the 2nd doe she has killed in 3 years with this gun and load, at 50 and 63 yards now. Both dropped where they stood but both bullets hit the neck/spine on exit. I used to shoot Buffalo Bullet brand, and they were super accurate out to 100 yards but they have so much recoil that it's a lot for the girls to hang onto.

Thanks. Same gun I have. I just started using the same load you mentioned. I hope to kill a javelina with it next month.

When your girls are on the hunt the deer should just give themselves up. The outcome is inevitable. I wish those backstraps were in my fridge.

Ha, thanks guys, it sure is fun to have kids that enjoy doing this stuff with their nerdy old dad :)
Best of luck with the javelin JCS, please let us know how that turns out.

I handload the same bullet for my boy's 357 Mag rifle. It's a wicked little killer! Well done.
