This time of year I always love hearing the success stories almost as much as the near misses. I have a few buddies that seem to have a Rolodex of stories year after year about the one that got away. I wouldn’t mind adding a few new good ones to my list:

“He was too close, couldn’t see him through my scope”

“Must of bumped my scope on the way in”

“My rest didn’t go up when I pulled back”

“Thought I’d let him pass”


I’ve heard them all and probably used half of them at some point or another

This hunting season...

"No training wheels"

Saw him walking out his back door at 45 or so yards. Nothing i could do with a recurve.

I was inside 25 but needed to move down a ledge to put him in view. I got down, nocked and arrow, stood up to shoot and saw that.

Took a few pics as he walked away, then walked the half mile back to the truck.

My excuse is usually, I'm not dumb enough to pack one through 3 miles of swamp, again.
